In a table cover constructed in the above mentioned manner and of elastic woven fabric as above referred to; the cover is positioned over the top so that two of the corner pockets i are slipped over and cover adjacent corners of the table top. The elastic fabric of the cover is then stretched until. the opposite Eli Mi li comer pockets 4 can be slippedover the opposite comers of the table top. The fact that the original rectangular dimensions of the cover are made slightly less than the dimensions of the table top to be covered causes the fabric of the cover in its stretched. condition to lay over and cover the surface of the table top in a taut manner and to present a smooth covering for the top. The side edges of the rectangular shaped elastic fabric cover will be formed into side skirt portions 5 when the cover is in position on the table top and said skirt portions due to the elastic character of the fabric will tend to grip the side edges of the table.

In Figure 4, I have shown a cover made so that it can be applied to a bed mattress. In a cover having such a use the elastic fabric is cut in such a manner that it will be of such rectangular dimensions that the size of the corner pockets will be such that they will accommodate the corner portions of the mattress. Due to the thickness of the usual mattress these corner pockets would necessarily have to be larger in size than would be the case in a table cover. Also the size of the pockets would result in having a wider skirt portion 5 produced when the cover is in position with respect to the mattress and said skirt portion would overlap and cover the sides of the mattress in a stretched condition.

It will be seen that a table cover made of an elastic fabric in the manner above described may be constructed so that it will be adaptable for use as a cover for table tops of varying sizes, within reasonable limits, because of the elastic character of the fabric and when it is applied to said varying sized tops, it will present a smooth fiat surface without wrinkles therein. The pocket formations produced at the corners of the cover provide simple and effective means for attaching the cover to the table top and will present a neat appearance when the cov'er is in place because the elasticfabric of the pockets will also be stretched tightly over the corners.

It is obvious that the cover construction contemplated by the present invention may be utilized as an efficient cover for any flat rectangular shaped surface which may be presented in various types of furniture constructions and other articles.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: v

1. A cover for rectangular shaped flat topped parts of furniture and other articles made of a fabric woven of anelastic material and cut to a size and shape substantially corresponding to the size and shape of the'top surface of the rectangular shaped part to be covered. and provided with corner pockets adapted to fit over the corners of the rectangular shaped part, said pockets being arranged so as to hold the fabric of the cover over the top surface in a stretched condition when they are in position with respect to the corners of the retcangular shaped part.

2. A cover for rectangular shaped flat topped parts of furniture and other articles made of a fabric having a substantial elasticity in the direction of its width and length and cut to a size and shape which substantially corresponds to the size and shape of the top surface of the rectangular shaped part to be covered, and provided with corner pockets formed by stitching together portions of the fabric at the corners of the cover, said pockets being adapted to fit over the corners of the rectangular shaped part and being arranged parts of furniture or other articles, made of a woven elastic fabric and formed with a main surface covering for the flat top of said part,

and corner pockets adapted to fit over the cor-' ners of said part, said pockets being arranged so as to secure said main surface covering section of said cover over the surface of said flat top, and in a stretched and taut condition, when said pockets are in position with respect to the corners of the rectangular shaped .fiat topped part of said furniture or other article.

4. A cover for rectangular shaped flat topped. parts of furniture or other articles, made of a woven elastic fabric and formed with a main surface covering section for the fiat top of said part, corner pockets adapted to fit over the corners of the rectangular shaped part, and a pendant fiap or skirt sections adapted to cover the side portions of the rectangular shaped part, said corner pockets being arranged so as to secure said main surface covering section, and the side flap or skirt sections in a taut and stretched condition over the respective parts they are intended to cover. when said pockets are in position with respect to the corners of the rectangular shaped flat topped part of said furniture or other article.

A rectangular shaped table cover made of a woven elastic "fabric and formed with a main table top covering section and corner pockets adapted to fit over the corners of the table, said pockets being arranged so as to secure said main table top covering section over the table top in a taut and stretched condition when they are in position with respect to the corners of the table.

6. A rectangular shaped table cover made of a woven fabric having a substantial elasticity in the direction of its Width and length and formed with a main table top covering section and corner pockets adapted to fit over the corners of the table, said pockets being formed by stretching together portions of the fabric at the corners of the cover andbeing positioned so that they will hold the main table top'covering section over the table top in a stretched condition lengthwise as well as in the direction of its width when they are in position with respect to the said corners of the table.

'7. A rectangular shaped table cover made of a woven elastic fabric and formed with a main tabletop covering section, corner pockets adapted to fit over the corners of the table and pendant flap or skirt sections adapted to cover the side edges of said table top, said pockets being positioned so as to secure said main table top covering section over the surface of said top and said side flap or skirt sections over the side edges of said top, in a taut and stretched condition when they are in'position with respect to the corners of the table.

8. A cover for rectangular shaped flat topped parts of furniture or other articles, comprised of a fabric made of elastic material and so that it has a substantial elasticity in the direction of its width and length, said cover being cut in a rectangular shape corresponding to the shape of the fiat top of said part but of a size less in area than the area of the flat top of the rectangular shaped part, pockets formed in the corners of said cover adapted to be fitted over the corners the table top and to secure said cover to said top in a taut and stretched condition.

10. A rectangular shaped cover tor a table top made of woven elastic fabric and formed with corner pockets and side skirt portions, said pock-' ets being adapted to fit over the corners of the table top and secure said cover to said top and said skirt portions to the sides of said top in a taut and stretched condition.
