DRAWER PULL. No. 250,371. Patented Deo. 6,1881.
ATTEST.' INVENTO'RZ P R; Pham-Lithogmpner, washmglmmn UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HERMAN H. LIEMKE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
DRAWER-PU LL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,371, dated December 6, 1881.
Application led December 1, 1880. (Model.)
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN H. LIEMKE,`a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Drawer-Pulls; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in that class of drawer-pulls in which provision is made for the attachment of a 1abel to indicate the contents of the drawer to which the pull is attached; and it consists in a construction and arrangement of parts, as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the ditferent figures, Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
To enable others skilled in the lart to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to more fully describe the same.
As shown in the drawings, the pull consists of a hasp-shaped main portion, A, having ears a, by means of which itis secured to the drawer, and a beveled top portion, B, all of which are cast in a single piece, the beveled portion being recessed out, so as to form a shallow sunken chamber with a continuous back plate, as shown. This sunken chamber is to receive a glass or other sign-plate, C, or a plain glass cover to a paper label, which sign-plate, dto.,
is supported bythe continuous back plate aforesaid, so as not to be broken by accidental pressure, blows, Ste.
i The plate O is secured in the sunken recess aforesaid by cement or other equivalent means, so as to be tlush with the upper face of the beveled portion B, and thus avoid recesses at the edges and corners for the accumulation of dirt, Sto.
The ears a. are strengthened and braced to the main portion of the pull by a web, c', and
to the beveled portion by a web or plate, a2, both of Awhich webs are cast as an integral part of the pull, as shown.
Thel construction of my invention, as above specied, possesses the following meritorious and novel features:
First. The plate C being flush with the face ofthe pull, the full face of the label can be seen, which permits of the use ot' large and conse quently more distinct letters in the label. This feature also allows for the ready cleaning of the face of the label, as it does not form any recesses at its corners for the accumulation of dirt, &c.
Second. The continuous back forms a strong and rigid support or backing for the sign-plate, so as to prevent breakage of the same by accidental pressure, blows, Snc.
Third. The peculiar construction and arrangement of the strengthening-Webs, as described, braces and strengthens the ears a. and forms astrong-connectiou between the ears and the body ot' the pull, and thus prevents break age at the Weakest point ofthe ordinary pulls.
I am aware of the construction of drawer-V pulls shown in patents granted to Evarts and Cinquini, April l1, 1871, No. 113,506, and W. A. Wright, July 24, 1877, No. 193,587, and do hereby specially disclaim such construction; but,
Having thus" fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The drawer-pull A, having a beveled portion, B, recessed out, so as to form a shallow sunken chamber with a continuons back, for the reception of a sign-plate that is secured in place flush with the face of said beveled portion, the whole pull being formed in one integral casting, as and for the purpose set forth.
Signed at St. Louis, State of Missouri, this 26th day of November, 1880.
HERMAN H. LIEMKE.
In presence of- THEoDoRE. PAPIN, E. M. TESSON.
