The position of such a poultice is illustrated in Fig. 6 in which the material between the poultices generally is of suificient length to bridge the crown of a tooth while the poultices, or counterirritating substances, are permitted to contact the gum with the porous material I2 thereagainst so that the transitory reaction of the ingredients takes place in the direction indicated by the arrows. The cellophane layer ll being of a non-porous material and moistureproof inhibits such reaction in that direction so that the cheek and tongue remain substantially unaffected by the drugs.
Such a dental poultice is an aid in alleviating aches and pains due to disorders of the teeth and has the advantage that it covers the gum on each side of a defective tooth. Furthermore, it does not affect the tongue or outer cheek and is very comfortable to the user because of its porous and non-porous surface characteristics.
It will thus be seen that the objects hereinbefore set forth may readily and eificiently be attained, and since certain changes may be made in the above article and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. v
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A therapeutic product comprising a web secured together to provide oppositely disposed pockets each of which contains a dental poultice, one area of each or said pockets being non-porous to inhibit transitory reaction of the ingredients constituting said poultice, and an opposite area of each of said pockets being porous to facilitate such reaction, said product being of a size such that it readily can be inserted in the users mouth and the mouth kept closed, each poultice being sufficiently separated so that it will contact the gum along its porous area and the material between said poultice being sufficient in area to overlie the crown of a tooth and hold said poultices in suspended position along the gum on opposite sides of a tooth.
2. A therapeutic product'comprising two sheets of material secured together to provide oppositely disposed pockets each of which contains a dental poultice, one of said sheets being non-porous to inhibit transitory reaction of the ingredients constituting said poultices, and the other sheet being porous to facilitate such reaction, said product being of a size such that it readily can be inserted in the users mouth and the mouth kept closed, each poultice being suificiently separated so that it will contact the gum along its porous area and the material between said poultice being suflioient in area to overlie the crown of a tooth and hold said poultices in suspended position along the gum on opposite sides of a tooth.
3. A therapeutic product comprising two sheets of material secured together to provide oppositely disposed pockets each of which contains a dental poultice, one of said sheets being moistureproof cellophane to inhibit transitory reaction of the ingredients constituting said poultice, and the other sheet being a fibrous material, said product being of a size such that it readily can be inserted in the users mouth and the mouth kept closed, each poultice being suiiiciently separated so that it will contact the gum along its porous area and the material between said poultice being suiiicient in area to overlie the crown of a tooth and hold said poultices in suspended position along the gum on opposite sides of a tooth.
4. -'A therapeutic product for use as a dental poultice constituting two webs of material adhesively secured together marginally to provide oppositely disposed pockets and adhesively secured together in an area between said pockets each of which contains a dental poultice comprising a block of compressed counter-irritant material, one of said webs being a moistureproof heat-scalable cellophane which will inhibit transitory reaction of the ingredients constituting said poultices, and the other Web being a fibrous structure of paper containing an overall heatsealable coating which will heat seal to said cellophane and which is sufficiently porous to permit transitory reaction of said poultice, said area between pockets providing a bridging portion adapted to overlie a tooth and to suspend said poultices along the gum on each side of said tooth.
