This invention relates to a holder or support for a roll of toweling, toilet tissue, or the like; and one of the objects of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which will enable the user to insert or to remove a roll of material from the device with a minimum of effort and labor and which, at the same time, will permit dispensing the material with the least inconvenience.

In general I have provided a holder comprising a pair of brackets and a removable roller carried by and between the brackets for supporting and dispensing toilet tissue, toweling or the like in which the roll of material is rotatabl supported in a convenient position so as to be readily available and freely releasable and at the same time capable of being readily reloaded with an additional supply of the required material.

Further and more limited objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds and by reference to the accompanying drawings. These drawings show two embodiments of the invention, the first in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and the second in Fig. 4.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the roller shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view showing the manner of mounting the roller in the brackets; and

Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the second form of my device.

Referring first to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, the reference character I designates a tubular member which is preferably formed of metal and which has mounted therein at opposite ends thereof a pair of spring-pressed plungers 2. Press fitted within the tube I are a pair of abutment discs 3 and a pair of springs 4 urge the plungers 2 outwardly. The fixture comprises a pair of brackets 5 which have recesses in the adjacent ends thereof which receive therein the plungers '2, as indicated in Fig. 3. These brackets are mounted on a wall in an suitable manner.

It will be seen that the tube I is journaled in the brackets and turns relatively freely therein while permitting ready removal thereof for the purpose of re-loading the device with an additional supply of the required material. The brackets rotatably support the roll and tube which is journaled therein, and the plungers serve to frictionally hold the roll in place and yet permit quick removal thereof. When it is desired to remove the roll, it is grasped in the hand and pulled outwardly in order that a new supply of material may be inserted.

It is of course to be understood that the roll or tube may be used for dispensing towels, toilet tissue or any other sort of rolled material.

In Fig. 4 there is disclosed a modified form of my invention which has a pair of supp in brackets 6 that are shown in section. This device comprises a tube or roller 1 and fitting in the opposite ends thereof are a pair of members or plungers 8 which have reduced extensions 9 leaving an annular shoulder, so that the tube 7 surrounds the extension and at its ends abuts against the shoulder. These plungers slidably occupy cylindrical recesses [0 in the bracket and are pressed outwardly of the recess by compression springs H. Rods l2 pass slidably through the bracket and extend axially across the recess l0 and are threaded into the plungers 8. The rods are equipped with enlargements or knobsv l3 on their ends which prevent the plungers being pressed inwardly far enough to pass out of the recesses In. These knobs also provide convenient finger holds for pulling the rods outwardly to withdraw the plungers into the recesses and thus free the tube.

When it is desired to remove the tube 1 in order to insert an additional supply of toweling or tissue, either or both of the members '8 are moved outwardly axially. The tube 1 turns freely on the members 8 and is held against accidental displacement. The brackets may of course be secured to the wall in any suitable manner.

It will now be clear that I have provided a holder of the character herein described which will accomplish the objects of the invention as hereinbefore stated. With either embodiment the tube l or I is of proper diameter and length to readily carry a roll of paper of usual size.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a pair of brackets rigidly secured in spaced relation to each other, a pair of opposed axially aligned cylindrical recesses one in each bracket, a plunger slidably mounted in each of said recesses, an open ended tubular support, a reduced cylindrical extension on each of said plungers normally disposed within the ends of said tubular support, a spring in each of said recesses urging said plungers toward each other and into engagement with said tubular support, a rod secured to each of said plungers and extending out through an aperture in the associated bracket, and an enlarged head on each of said rods adapted to be grasped and pulled outwardly to withdraw said plungers from said tubular support and into said recesses.

2. in a device for holding a roll of paper, the combination of two spaced brackets and an openended tube adapted to be mounted between the brackets and each bracket having a member with a. reduced portion adapted to enter the tube providing an annular shoulder to engage the end of the tube, the said member on at least one of the brackets being a plunger slidable in a recess in the bracket, an axial rod secured to said plunger extending outwardly through the recess to the exterior of the bracket and providing means for drawing the plunger into the recess, and a spring within such recess normally projecting the plunger partially out of the recess.
