The present invention relates to a two cycle engine wherein the suction port is opened and closed by the engine piston and wherein the division plane between the cylinder and crankshaft casing is provided above the opening of the suction port into the cylinder, the suction port being provided in the crankshaft casing and the carburettor being equally fixed to the crankshaft casing and not the cylinder as is the case in other hitherto familiar arrangements of two cycle engines of this kind.
For the carburettor a suitable depression is provided in the crankshaft casing casting, said depression forming, together with a particular cover, a housing wherein the carburettor is totally enclosed save the inlet tube respectively the frontal suction wall or the air filter forming one of the walls of said carburettor housing.
The main feature of the above described a1- rangement consists in that for the purpose of dismantling the cylinder it will not be necessary to remove the carburettor and the gasoline inlet tube. A further feature consists in that the carburettor is totally enclosed and thus protected against the intrusion of rainwater, dust, etc.
An embodiment of the object of the present invention will be described hereinafter, by way of example merely, with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section through the engine,
Fig. 2 shows a cross section of the engine on the line a-a in Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings, l is the engine cylinder, 2 the cylinder opening for the suction port 3 being alternately closed and opened by the control edge of the piston 4. The engine cylinder l is assembled with the crankshaft respectively block casing 5 in such manner that the division plane 6 between the engine cylinder l and the casing 5 is positioned above the suction opening 2. Therefore, the suction port is provided within the crankshaft casing and preferably curved in such manner as to extend downwards from its opening into the cylinder. Due to this arrangement it is possible to locate the carburettor 1 fixed by its flange 8 to the crankshaft casing 5 in a comparatively very low position so as to enable its lower portion to be accommodated in the chamber 9 cast out in the crankshaft casing 5. therefor, the housing cover It comprises either a plate cover l2 with rubber lining or a rubber cover held in position within the cover ill by resilience. The float control spindle is adjusted by the button shown in the drawing as protruding out of the cover so that the float can be controlled without it being necessary to remove the cover.
As already mentioned, the cover it is connected to the crankshaft casing 5 by several latches provided at the end of flat springs ll so that the cover ll] may be removed without the use of any tool whatsoever.
I claim:
1. A two cycle internal combustion engine including a crankshaft casing integrally formed with a cylindrical portion constituting a part of the working cylinder and provided in its wall with an opening which is in communication with one end of a suction port formed in said cylindrical portion of said crankshaft casin of the engine, a cylinder attached to said cylindrical portion in axial alignment therewith and constituting the remaining part of the working cylinder, a chamber formed adjacent said suction port by a depression in the crankshaft casing, a cover for said chamber, means for removably attaching said cover to said crankshaft casing, a curburetor with an air filter mounted in said chamber, and means connecting the outlet of said carburetor directly with the other end of said suction port, said air filter having its inlet arranged in a wall of said chamber.
2. A two cycle internal combustion engine as claimed in claim 1, including a plurality of fiat springs provided with latches for attachin the cover for said chamber quickly removably to the crankshaft casing.
3. A two cycle internal combustion engine as claimed in claim 1, including Bowden wire means for controlling the operation of said carburetor, and a removable second cover for normally closing an aperture in said first named cover, said aperture when uncovered permitting access and adjustment of said Bowden wire means without removal of said first named cover.
