COMBINATION DRAPE AND CURTAIN FIXTURE Filed Nov. 24, 1947 1. Fig.6.
INVENTOR' HERBERT L. JOHNSON Patented Dec. 27, 1949 doivmmA'rlon DEAF-E AND GUBBTAIN FIXTURE net-ea a. mason,- Rania-its reassess November 24, 191v steam vsmzo 1 can. One of the important features of my invention is that the rods are mounted in key holed hinge brackets. The brackets are adapted to lock sets of screws permanently fixed to the edge faces of a window frame side strip, whereby the brackets are flush with the frame edges and will not damage or mar the appearance of the outfit, it being understood that the pairs of curtains carried by the fixture together with the hinge brackets may all be installed or removed from the window frame, which frame carries only the anchor screws.
A further object of my invention is to provide length adjustment of the curtain arms, whereby the pairs of curtains and drapes will meet at the center of the window, and when it is desired to open or clean the windows, the combination curtain outfit may be swung back and clear of the window to protect the same from damage or soiling.
With the above and other objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and more particularly defined by the appended claim, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of the present invention constructed according to the best mode so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a face view of a window having attached thereto a set of curtain fixtures embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged, fragmentary face view of the curtain hangers particularly illustrating the arms thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan sectional view of the same, the section being indicated by line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail cross sectional view through one of the hinge brackets, the section being indicated by line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a cross sectional end view, the section being indicated by line 55 of Figure 2.

Figure 7 is another. detail' crojssi sectional vilew through the" lower h' ge cerrireeu n, the section being. indicated by kne lofFigurel A Figure 8 is an enlarged, plan sectional view through the lower end of one of the pivot rods and actuating handle, the same being indicated by line 8-8 of Figure 1.
Referring by characters to the drawing A indicates the standard window having a frame B. The edges B of the side strips of the window frame have extending therefrom screws l in upper and lower groups. These screws are provided for the reception of key holed upper and lower hinge brackets 2 and 2' respectively, the same having extended apertured ears for the reception of pivot rods 3 which pivot rods have secured to their lower ends actuating handles 8. When the curtain fixtures are in their normal display position, the said handles rest flatly against the faces of the window frame so as to avoid striking the same.
The upper ends of the rods have each permanently secured thereto the inturned shank ends 4 of fiat-strip arms 4', which arms constitute drapery supports, and the same are provided with a series of notches 4" for engaging the looped ends of draperies whereby they may be adjusted in the desired ornamental folds and held in such adjustment.
The fiat drapery arms, which have spear heads, may be provided with extension channel sections 5, which sections are in telescopic union with the arms and are locked in their adjusted position by screws 6 which may selectively engage one of the series of apertures 6' in said extension sections 5.
In order to secure the end edges of the drapery when the extension sections are used, I stamp the said sections 5 with an end nib 5' whereby said nib will offer resistance in preventing the front edges of the drapery from slipping back and forth.
The inwardly extended shank 4 of the drapery or strap arm 4 is secured to the fiat end 3 of a pivot rod 3 by means of screws ill. The shank 4 also carries a curtain rod 1 threadedly connected at I2 to the shank, the rod bein offset from the window frame and in parallel relation to the flat drapery arm. Each rod arm I is also provided with a tubular extension 'I' in telescopic engagement with the rod 1, whereby said curtain rod 1 may be adjusted as to length.
The lower ends of each pivot rod 3 has secured thereto an actuating arm 8, and said arms rest fiatly against the face of the window frame when the fixture is in its functioning position with reference to curtains and draperies.
From the foregoing description it is obvious should it be desired to open the window for ventilating purposes or for cleaning the same, the pairs of curtains may be readily swung backward against the wall and clear of the window so as to prevent damage or soiling of the curtain equipment.
It will also be apparent should it be desired to remove the curtain equipment from the window frame, temporarily or permanently, the entire equipment being self-contained can readily be disconnected by an upward thrust of each pivot rod 3 whereby the hinge brackets and associated parts are freed from the edges of the frame, and hence, the window frames are not marred due to attaching other such drapery.
I claim:
A swingin curtain rod fixture, comprising a bracket, having a pair of apertured ears adapted to be secured to a window frame, a rod pivoted to the bracket ears, a fiat strap arm having an inturned shank secured to the upper end of the rod and supported upon the upper bracket ear, the upper edge of the strap arm being provided with a series of notches, adapted to engage the looped end of a curtain, whereby said curtain is frictionally held in folds, a channel extension adjustably mounted upon the end of the strap arm and a nib projecting from the end face of the channeled extension, adapted to frictionally engage and confine the curtain loop at its end.
