UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
HUBEBT S. GOFFE, OF BROOKPORT, NEW YORK.
OIL-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 249,037, dated November 1, 1881.
Application filed March 8, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, HUBERT SAMUEL GOFFE,
of Brockport, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oil-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in combining two circular rotary plates with wick-tubes arranged eccentrically therein, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my invention, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a plate, which may form the top or cover of the oil-fount-, and may be attached thereto in any suitable manner.
B B are two circular plates or disks fitting over holes in the plate A. They are here shown as arranged to fit the holes like a griddle or a pot-hole cover in an ordinary stove; but they may be arranged in any suitable manner, so that they can be readily rotated when in place.
0 represents a wick-tube fitted in the plate or disk B. There may be any suitable number of tubes to each disk. As here shown there are two wick-tubes to each disk, and two disks are shown which co operate with each other, as hereinafter described, being arranged as near each other as they can be. The tubes 0 are arranged eccentrically in the disk, instead of being in the center, as heretofore.
The stove proper may be of any suitable on the bottom of the fount.
construction, being provided with the usual grating or other appliance for supporting the vessels to be heated by the flame. When it is desired to usethewicks at twodifl'erentpointsas, for instance, to heat two different vessels at a time-or when only one flame is needed, the disks are arranged as shown in Fig. 1, so asto place the tubes of one disk at the greatest distance t'rom those of the other. By rotating the disks in their seats until they reach the position shown in Fig. 2 the tubes of one disk are placed in close proximity to those of the other, so as to concentrate the flame from all the wicks at one point or under one vessel.
The wick-tube C is made long enough to eX- tend nearly to the bottom of the oil-fount, and its lower end is curved toward a horizontal direction, as shown at (I, and the wick lies flat By this means the point where the wick enters the wick-tube is submerged as long as the depth of oil is slightly greater than the thickness of the wick, and thus the danger of explosion of gas in the fount is lessened.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In an oil-stove, the combination of two circular plates or disks, B, arranged to rotate in their seats, and having wick-tubes 0 arranged eccentrically in said disks, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
HUBERT SAMUEL GOFFE.
