G. E. NORRIS an F. B. MYBR. SHIRTBOSOM BLANK.
Patented Oot. 25', 1881.
ran STATES PATENT rtree..
GEORGE E. NORRIS, OF LANSINGBURG, AND FRANK E. MYElt, OF GLENS FALLS, ASSIGNORS OF ONE-HALF TO JAMES K. P. PlNE, OF TROY, N. Y.
SHIRT-,BOSOM BLANK` SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 248,603, dated October 25, 1881.
Application filed April 14, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom fit may concern:
Beit known that we, GEORGE E. NoRRrs, of the village of Lansingburg, county of Rensselaer and State of New York, and FRANK E. MYER, of Glens Falls, WVarren county, same State, have jointly invented a new and useful Improvement in Shirt-Besoins, of which thefollowing is a specification.
' Our invention relates to the form of shirtbosom blanks; and it consists in the form in which they are cut and shaped before being plaited, and so that when the latter is done the bosom will have formed in its top the necessary curve for the neck, and withoutfurther cutting and trimming, the object bei'ngto save material and to reduce lthe cost of manufacture, the kind of bosoms to which the form of blanks herein described relates being lwhat is known as central box-plait bosoms.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, are four figures illustrating our invention, in all of which the same reference-letters are used to designate the same parts.
Figure l shows a bosom-blank with dotted lines, designating the line of the box-plait folds and the manner in which the blank is shaped, so that when folded the curves cut in the top will in continuity produce the required neck-curve in the top of thebosom. This view also shows the form of the bottom of the bosom-blank and its 'combined curves to produce, when the blank is folded, the box-plait, and a projected end upon the latter, which is folded up to form a staying part of the bosom-band, this part of the blank being indicated by a dotted line. Fig. 2 illustrates the bosom produced from the blank form shown in Fig. l. Fig. 3 illustrates a section taken at right angles to the plait-fold, and with the latter partly produced. Fig. 4 shows a section taken on the same line as Fig.3,but when the blank has been folded to produce the central box-plait.
The several parts and curves of which the blank form is composed are designated as follows:
The letters P P indicate two raised points, and O and Oll the lines of the box-plait fold. When the plait is formed by folding inwardly 5o the blank in the line O', and outwardly on the line O, until the points P P are coincident with the points P P", there is produced in continuity the curved line O A O shown in the bosom designated in Fig. 2. 5 5
The bosom-blank designated at D has the usually-curved sides indicated at S S and the straight top F F. At the bottom of the blank D there are produced the curved eXte rior edges a a a, and which the blank is 6o .folded to form, The box-plait B produces the projection B which is turned Linder to form a part ot' the bosom-band at the bottom, as indicated at B. When a blank having the exterior form shown at D, Fig. l, is cut from the material, its lower end laps in to the area of the curves to be cut in the top of the succeeding one, so that there is butlittle waste of material.
As bosom-blanks have heretofore been cut 7o with a straight top the plait was folded and the neck-curve cut out. This procedure occasioned quitealoss of material, which our irnproved form of blank saves.
Another economical feature of ourimprovement consists in forming the lower end of the bosom so as to produce, when folded to make the plait, a projection which forms a part of the bosom-band, which as heretofore made was out from a separate piece and sewed to the bo- 8o som and shirt.
Havingthus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The exterior top and side form of a bo. 8 5 som-blank, D, and in combination consisting of the curved sides S S, the fiat top F F, the side neck-curves, Pf P", the points P P', and the curve A, arranged between the latter, as and for the purposes described and set forth. 9o
2. The exterior form of the bottom of the bosom-blank D, consisting of the curves a',
a', and a, shaped to form, when the bosom is folded to produce a central box-plait, the'projection B, as and for the purposes described Signed at Troy, New York, this 13th day of 1o and set forth. January, 1881.
3. The exterior form ofthe bosom-blank D, consisting of the curved sides S S, at top F GEO. E. NORRIS. 5 F, the sideneck-curves, P P", the points P P FRANK E. MYER.
and curve A between the two latter, and the curves a a and a, out on the bottom of the Witnesses: Y blank, as and for the purposes described and E. S. STOUT, set forth. W. W. SEARLE.
