Description

34 lla/4 F lg 2 l Inventorsv George L. Zent Ber/ha M. Zent Oct. 11, 1949. G. zENT ETAL ORNAMENTAL ARTICLE HOLDER Filed Jan. 6, 1948 Patented Oct. 11, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ORNAMENTAL ARTICLE HOLDER George L. Zent and Bertha M. Zent, Vancouver, Wash.
Application January 6, 1948, Serial No. 696
4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders and the primary object of the present invention is to provide an imitation snow man so designed as to enclose and support a bottle or other type of article in a convenient package form.
Another important object of the `present invention is to provide an ornamental article holder that is extremely neat and attractive in appearance and including novel and improved closure means which is quickly and readily removable, facilitating the convenient entrance into the holder.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an ornamental holder for articles such as bottles or the like, resembling a snow man, that is small and compact in construction.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide an ornamental bottle holder that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention, and with parts broken away and shown in section;
Figure 2 is a reduced longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially through the center of the present ornamental bottle holder; and
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the present ornamental bottle holder and showing the head portion removed therefrom.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I represents the body portion of the present ornamental bottle holder generally comprising a tubular or sleeve-like receptacle I2. Fixed within the receptacle I2, adjacent the lower end I4 of said receptacle, are the oppositely turned longitudinal edges I6 of a preferably screen plate I-8 having an inner supporting edge 20. Rigidly secured to opposite faces of the plate I8 are the inner longitudinal edges 22 of a further pair of screen plates 24 and 26 having outwardly turned longitudinal ends 28 and 43Il which are xedly secured to the inner periphery of receptacle I2. The inner transverse edges 32 of these plates 24 and 26 terminate coplanar with the edge 20 of the plate I8, and the outer transverse edges `34 of the plates 24 and 26 terminate co-planar with the outer edge 36 of the plate I8 and the lower end I4 of the receptacle I2 so that the receptacle will be supported in a substantially vertical position when placed on a supporting surface such as a table or the like, and a bottle 38 will be disposed in an elevated position within the receptacle I2 with the neck portion 40 of the bottle 38 projecting outwardly from the open upper end 42 of the receptacle I2.
Frictionally retained in the upper end 42 of the receptacle I2 is the lower end of an upper sleeve 44. Extending outwardly through suitable apertures in the upper sleeve 44 are the free end portions l46 of a finger receiving loop 48 that project outwardly from the upper end of the sleeve 44.
1Rigidly secured to the outer periphery of the receptacle I2, adjacent the upper end 42 of the receptacle I2, is the upper edge 40 of a depending annular sheet of bendable material such as cardboard or the like 54 that loosely embraces the receptacle I2. At substantially the longitudinal center of the receptacle I2 the material 54 is turned inwardly and fixed as at 56 thereto to provide an upper barrel-like portion designated generally by the numeral 58 and a lower barrel-like portion or shirt designated generally by the numeral 60.
Glued or suitably secured to the outer face of the material 54 is a cotton materia1 forming the exterior 62 of the body lportion I Il and which conforms to the curvature of the upper barrellike portion 58 and the lower barrel-like portion to simulate chest and base portion of a snow man. Suitable disks 64 and a necktie 66, preferably of a bow type is fixed to the material forming the exterior 62 of the present ornamental bottle holder to further add to the attractiveness of the same in simulating a snow man.
Anchored to plates B8 that are suitably fixed to the exterior 62 are the inner ends 'Ill 0f a pair of bendable cores or wire 'I2 having preferably cotton material 'I4 suitably secured thereon to provide arms that are designated generally by the numeral 'IB and which are bendable t0 a desired form. It is preferred that a cane 'I8 also of preferably cotton material be xed at one end of one of the arms to simulate a candy stick.
Fixed at its lower edge adjacent the lower end of the upper sleeve 44 is a cup-like element 82 55 of preferably cardboard material having a suitable slot through which the loop 48 extends. Cotton material 84 is also fixed to the outer face of the element 82 to provide a head portion designated generally by the numeral 86 which is also provided with an opening through which the loop 48 extends. A suitable hat 88 preferably of the high hat variety, is frictionally positioned on the head portion 86 and encloses the loop 43 and the opening provided in the'cottonmaterial 34 and the element 82.
To insert a bottle in the receptacle I2 it is merely necessary to remove the hat 88 and to pull outwardly upon the loop 48 whereby theentire head portion 82 will be removed'from the open upper end 42 of the receptacle.
Fixed to the head portion 86 are suitable strips of material 90 that form the-,desired facialfeatures of the present ornamental bottle holder.
In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with thefaccompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understandingof the construction, operation andsadvantages of thexde- -vice will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. l-`A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is `to be understood, however, that even -though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment Vof the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehendedby the spirit of the invention as herein described and the-scope of theA appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. An ornamental bottle holder comprising a, body having a sleeve-like receptacle xedtherein, support means Xed in said receptacle for supportingA a bottle therein, a head portion frictionally carried by said receptacle, hand gripping means carried by said head portion for removing the latter from said receptacle, and a closure frictionally fitted to said head portion and embracing and concealing saidhand gripping means..
2. An ornamental bottle holder comprising a sleeve-like receptacle, :a support xed within said receptacle for retaining a bottle disposed in an elevated position within said receptacle, a, covering loosely embracing said receptacle, said covering includinga central portion xed to said receptacle, a removable closureV for one -end of said 'body having a sleeve-like receptacle fixed therein, .support means Xed in said receptacle for Supporting a bottle therein, a head portion frictionally carried by said receptacle, hand gripping Vmeans carried by said head portion, a closure carried Vby said head portion embracing said hand gripping means, and a plurality of arms fixed on said body and providing additional Weight for the body.
4. An ornamental bottle holder comprising a cylindrical receptacle having Aupper and lower open ends, a support xed inthe open end ofsaid receptacle for supporting a bottle, a coveringembracing said receptacle and including a'central portion fixed to the outer periphery ofvsaid receptacle intermediate the ends thereof, the vlower edge of said covering being coplanar'with the open lower end of said receptacle to prevent overtipping of said receptacle, a sleeve having one end frictionally tted in the open upper end of said receptacle, a covering for said sleeve-and Ahaving an opening registering with said sleeve, ,a nger grip carried by said sleeve havingaportion projecting outwardly through the opening in said last mentioned covering, and a closure carried by said last mentioned covering embracing and shielding said finger grip.
