Description

G. H. ELWELL Sa k. 227, 1949.
SLIDE LOOP Filed June 14, 1945 INQVE TOR.
Patented Sept. 27, 1949 Application Jen ii, 1945, SerEaTN'o: 59955176" This invention relates to slide loops, therphysical combination of a slide for adjustable secured position upon any portion of the length of a strap upon which it is mounted, and a button loop adapted to be clipped over and upon a button carried by the garment to be supported thereby.
The object of the invention is to provide for a rigid strap-loop of a slide loop having an intermediate cross-bar, a second strap-loop hinged to the upper bar of the rigid loop and carrying a blocking projection for engagement with a portion of the rigid loop to limit the relative angle of said loops from a common plane in order to provide for a vertical insertion within said second loop of folded portions of a strap first having been looped around said intermediate cross-bar and supporting the slide loop in an erect position. A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby said angle portion of the device may also assume a position in the plane of said body part when the device, mounted upon a strap, is made to pass through a clothes wringer in the process of laundering.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, the Figure 1 is a face elevation of the device; Figure 2 is a side view thereof with movable member at an angle to the body part of the device illustrating in outline a vertically inserted strap; Figure 3 is a similar side view of the device but with movable member positioned in the plane of the body part with inserted strap illustrated in outline; and the Figure 4 is a detail illustrating a locking means as between body and movable part.
With more particular reference to the accompanying drawing, the numeral l designates a wire rectangular loop enclosure; 2 the upper cross-bar of said loop I 3 and 4 the side bars thereof; 5 the intermediate cross-bar fixed to said side bars 3 and 4; 6 and 1 the lowermost relatively aligned cross-bar sections of said rectangular loop I; and 8 and 9 the side arms depending from the crossbar sections 6 and T, and altogether providing the slide loop, including the button loop Ill, as illustrated by the Figure 1 with the exception of the movable member.
The movable member comprises the cross-bar I2 having the side bars l3 and I4 terminating in looped ends l5 and I6 hinged to said upper crossbar 2 and providing the strap passage I1 adapted for an angle position, relative to the body part of the device held by a projection l8 provided by one of the looped ends IE or IE and engaging a side bar 3 or 4, to provide a vertical strap pasz ciai s. (01.24 msage I! for an inserted strap S but movable into the plane of said body part when necessary.
In use, an. extremity SA of a strap S, after its insertion vertically from overhead to within the passage 11, is looped around the intermediate cross-bar '5 from the front and then returned upwardly within the passage I! of the blocked movable member, back of that portion of the strap S already inserted therein from the top, the returned extremity of the strap S being thus made to lie out of the Way of the operation of the button loop I!) portion of the device.
The wire extremities l I of the button loop portion ID are formed ready to receive a connecting clip (not illustrated).
All garment supporting strain upon both the inserted strap S and the improved slide loop will be cared for by the strap-covered cross-bar 5 and the engaged faces of the strap S held within the strap passage l1, thereby positively binding the inserted strap S in positive securement against all accidental sliding movement within the slide loop.
To readjust the slide loop upon a slack strap S, the strap S is loosened around the intermediate cross-bar 5, thus releasing the binding position of the slide loop While the strap adjustment is being made.
This particular form of slide loop with wire structure to provide the vertical strap passage l1, positioned blocked at an angle to the plane of the body portion of the device, is designed in view of the necessity of laundering the strap while inserted within the slide loop. In passing through the clothes wringer the movable member is adapted to automatically assume a position in said plane, thereby avoiding distortion of the device during that process.
I claim:
1. A slide loop comprising strap loops ofequal length to receive a strap of uniform width, one of which strap loops includes a wire frame body in one plane and having an upper cross-bar, side bars and lower cross-bar sections from which depends a button loop; an intermediate cross-bar supported at each extremity by said side bars; a movable member providing the other strap loop and having a cross-bar with side bars depending therefrom, each of said side bars of the movable member terminating in a loop for hinged engagement with the upper cross-bar of said frame body; and a blocking projection provided by one of said hinge loops for engagement with one of said frame body side bars to limit the angle of said movable member relative to said frame body in order to loops formed around an upper cross-bar of ,said 7 frame; and a projection provided by one of said looped terminals for a blocking engagement with a side portion of said frame to limit the movement of said movable member out of said plane in order to provide for said movable member a strap passage for the vertical insertion of two plies of strap member in a common plane enabling the slide loop to be passed ,more safely through a washer wringer.
