- the pivoting of the arm 29 to the expander between the upper and lower ends thereof causes the expander to have an equalizing action to conform to the sleeve, and the resilient arm 29 causes the expander to have a follow-up action.
- the operating levers 21 for the expanders may be operated in any suitable manner, and as here shown they are operated manually, or their operation controlled. They are held in their operated position by friction latches 32.
- Each latch 32 is pivoted at 33 to the forward extending arm of the companion lever 21 and has a shoe 34 coacting with an arcuate friction face 35 in a curve struck from a center eccentric to the pivot 28 of the lever 21. The movement of each latch is against a returning spring 36. The latches are released by power means hereinafter referred to.
