1 Claim.
This invention relates generally to the vending of merchandise and particularly to meats and similar goods.
The main object of this invention is to provide a colored marking of divided strips, adapted to be placed between different kinds of meats within a tray or between the trays themselves.
The second object is to provide a device of the class described which can be easily kept in a sanitary condition, and which Will always appear bright and colorful when clean.
The third object is to so construct the device that there will be no place for food particles to lodge and disintegrate, and so the character of the strip will be such to facilitate its insertion into or between trays, as well as the removal therefrom.
The fourth object is to construct a device of light weight material in such a form as to provide the maximum amount of lateral rigidity therefrom.
We accomplish these and other objects in the manner set forth in the following specifications as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of the device, showing same in position.
Fig. 2. is a fragmentary side elevation of the device.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken along the line 33 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the device.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary side elevation of a modified form of the device.
Fig. 6 is a plan of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is an end elevation of Fig. 5.
Fig. 8 is a section taken along the line 8-8 in Fig. 5.
Similar numbers of reference refer to the same or similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring in detail to the drawings there is shown a tray l 0 having the front wall II and rear wall [2 such as are commonly used in the display of meat. I
Referring particularly to our invention, as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, same will be seen to consist of a strip of plastic material l3, whose ends I4 and I5 engage the walls I l and I2 of the tray I 0.
Mounted on the strip I3 is a spiral strip I 6 whose straight ends I! occupy the same plane as does the strip 13, The members I3 and I 6 are united at the points of contact by any suitable solvent, such as chloroform, acetone or other agents which will dissolve the material in the members l3 and I6 and permit same to unite along the points of contact.
It will be understood that the members l3 and I6 are preferably of a bright green color, simulating water cress or moss usually employed for this purpose.
In the form of the device shown in Fig. 4, the strip I8 is provided with a foot 19 and a fiat top 20, which may assume any shape. In this instance the top 20 is decorated by means of intersecting reverse curves 2|, which simulate the effect produced by the spiral strip Hi.
In the form of the device shown in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive, there is, shown a strip 22 upon which is mounted a spiral member 23, whose ends 24 are normal to the plane of the strip 22. The spiral 23 has formed in the edges 25 thereof, slots 26 which are adapted to receive the edge of the strip 22, in which the strip is secured by means of a suitable solvent or adhesive, while the portions 24 are made to adhere to the ends of the strip 22.
This form of the device is essentially the same as that heretofore described, except that it provides a better means for fastening the spiral member to the straight member and adds to the lateral rigidity of the straight member.
We claim:
A device of the class described, consisting of a straight strip in combination with a spiral strip having a slot extending along one side thereof through the rim of the spiral member, said slot being adapted to receive the edge of said straight strip, the ends of said spiral being turned normal to the plane of said straight strip, and means for securing said spiral member at its straightened ends to said straight strip. 7
