r 3- Claims.
This invention relates to a dishwashing basket for use in hotels, restaurants and the like where large quantities of dishes must be handled eX- peditiously and without wiping.
It is customary in such kitchens to use baskets which are filled with chinaware or silver to be Washed and then immersed into a vat of hot soapy water, after which the baskets are removed and immersed into a vat of cold water for rinsing, after which they are immersed a third time into a vat of water for purposes of sterilization.
In connection with such a process diiiiculties are encountered in that grease accumulates on any metal parts and where the dishes come in contact with such grease-coated portions of the basket they become stained and small particles of such accumulated and discolored grease are apt to become dislodged and float in the water, attaching themselves to various parts of the dishes.
Applicant has found that baskets constructed of wood eliminate these difficulties, the wetted wood forming a resistant base upon which grease does not accumulate.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved basket of the type indicated utilizing wood in all Parts which can possibly come in contact with the dishes, and only reinforced with metal to the extent necessary for strength and in such manner as not to bring any metal parts in contact with the contents of the basket.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawings accompanies this speciframe members each comprising side members I--I, connected at their ends by end frame members 2-2.
One of these frame members is provided on the inner confronting faces of the side frame members I-I with a plurality of mortises 3 in which 915P-fem Utiel-1115er 9,194.6, serialivmiaos. y' (cian-122): y; e
2 the ends of dowels II are adapted to seat to constitute a bottom.`
The confrontingfaces of each of the frame members are provided with spaced mortises adapted to receive a plurality of dowels I I which constitute side walls for the basket and hold the two frame members in spaced parallel relationship.
To reinforce the bottom frame member a frame of right angle cross section 5 is provided, the vertical flange of which-is arranged to snugly contact the youter faces ofthe bottom fra-me member while its horizontal flange closely contacts the bottom face of that frame member. This reinforcement frame is preferably made in one strip and its joining end edges are preferably brazed as indicated at 6. This reinforcing frame is secured to the bottom frame member as by screws 1. The members of the upper frame member are reinforced by angle members 9 at each corner which angle members are secured to the 'frame members as by screws I0.
The side members of the spaced frames are provided with spaced orifices I2 to receive the legs of two U-shaped handle members I4, the free ends of which legs are threaded as at I3.
Nuts I5 and I6 are arranged upon the threaded ends of the legs of the handle members I4 so as to tightly clamp the opposed faces of the bottom frame member, by which arrangement the entire weight of the basket and its contents is carried through the handles from the bottom frame member.
By reason of the construction thus described I it will be apparent that the major portion of the basket structure is formed from wood and that none of the metal reinforcement members are in a position to contact any of the contents of the basket, thus eliminating the difficulties arising from grease accumulating on such metal parts.
Various modifications in the proportions and shapes of the particular frame members will readily suggest themselves but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is:
1. Dishwashing basket consisting of two complementary frame members of wood, each of said frames formed with equally spaced mortises on all sides of their confronting faces and one of said frame members formed with equally spaced mortises on two inwardly directed opposed faces, a plurality of wooden dowels having their ends seated in the last mentioned mortises to constitute a bottom, a plurality of Wooden dowels having their ends seated in the mortises of the confronting faces of the two frames to constitute spacing side and end members and handle members secured to the bottom frame member and passing through suitable orices in the upper frame member.
2. Dishwashing basket as set forth in claim 1 with a reinforcing frame of right angle cross section arranged with a vertical ange contacting the outer faces of the bottom fra-me member and a horizontal flange contacting the bottom faces of the bottom frame member.
3. Dishwashing basket as set forth in. claim l in which the handles comprise U-shaped members the free ends of said members threaded, the leg of said members being positioned in aligned holes in the side members of each of the frames and secured by spaced nuts on said threaded ends l 4 said nuts clamping the opposed faces of the bottom frame member.
