UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK C. LILLIS, OF LOOKPORT, NEW YORK.
LOCK-FAUCET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,506, dated September 27, 1881.
Application filed June 27,1881. (ModeL) I To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK G. LILLIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lockport,in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-Faucets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detached side elevation of the valve and screw-stem.
A represents the barrel or body of the fancet, provided with a spout, 13, secured to the barrel by any suitable means and communicating with a bore, 0, extending from end to end of the barrel. The bore 0 is enlarged to any required diameter from the outer end of the barrel to a suitable distance beyond the entrance of the spout B. At this point a thread of suitable pitch and length is cutin the bore,
and a threaded flanged bushing, D, inserted to clamp a washer, E, of the same diameter as the enlarged part of the bore, and hold it secure in place as the seat of the valve F. The valve F has a diameter corresponding to that of the enlargedpart of the bore, and has a circular groove on its face to receive the flanged end of the bushing D and permit the rim of the valve to rest upon the washer E. The valve F has a screw-stem, Gr, projecting from the' center of its back that Works in a fixed circular nut H, that fits the enlarged part of the bore snugly, and is secured in place a suitable distance in front of the spout B by two screws, to and b, that pass through the sides of the barrel ot' the faucet and into the nut.
In front of the nut H a rubber packing, I, is placed, surrounding the stem G and snugly fitting the diameter of the enlarged part of the bore 0, preventing the escape of any fluid that might otherwise follow the stem or the sides of the bore.
In front of the packing a wooden thimble, K, is placedand glued to the inside of the bore. This secures all parts in place and leaves ample room for" the end of the stem to receive the key, which may be of any desired suitable form or construction.
In closing this faucet the rim of the "alve will be received by the washer and embedded sufficiently therein to make it fluid-tight, for all ordinary purposes.
, Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a lock-faucet, the combination of the barrel A, bushing D, and washer E, forming a valve-seat, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a lock-faucet, the combination of the barrel A, thimble K, packing I, nut H, and stem G, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination, in a lock-faucet, of a barrel A, nut H, stern G, and valve F with the bushingDandwasherE,substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK O. LILLIS.
