Application March 8, 1946, Serial No. 652,874
3 Claims.
This invention relates to a dispenser that can be attached to -a wall for use in a Wash room or bat-h room or used for a toothbrush.
An object of the invention is to provide a dispenser that is efficient in operation and will readily dispense dentifrice into the palm of the user for application to a toothbrush with which the container is used or a conventional toothbrush.
The toothbrush and container is attractive in design and capable of carrying an adequate supply of dentifrice and the wall dispenser can be made of any size or shape desired.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the dispenser as applied to the toothbrush shown in section;
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the dispenser and toothbrush; and
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawing the reference numeral Il) designates the body or handle having the removable brush head I2 mounted therein or the head may be fixed in the body in some suitable manner. A removable cover I4 is provided for the head I2 and mounted on the body protects the head from dirt.
The elements previously described are oval in cross section for easy grasping thereof.
Formed in the body I adjacent the bottom thereof are the ribs I6 having threaded edges I8 to receive the anchor nut 28 and the side of the body I are threaded at 22 to conform to the nut 20 and a lock washer 24 secures the anchor nut 28 in position.
The anchor nut 2li is provided with a threaded bore 26 to receive the externally threaded housing or dispenser 28 but the washer 24 is provided with a smooth bore 38.
The housing 28 is provided with the dispensing slots 32 of which there are four in number and are oppositely positioned with relation to each other.
Below the threads I8 the body is provided with shoulders 34 which engage the gasket 36 on the plate 38.
Below the slots 32 the housing 28 is provided with threads to receive the cap 4- and a perforated retainer 42 is seated in the cap and contacts the ends of the housing 28 when the cap 2 40 is in position. This retainer prevents an eX- cessive ejection of the dentifrice.
An ejection plug 44 having a seat 4S therein to receive the spring 48 is mounted in the housing 28, and is provided with a hollow stem 5l) having a threaded end 52 adapted for engagement with the threaded bore 54 of the capl 48 and a knurled end 56 thereon. The passage 58 in the stem permits the escape of air therefrom and the end 56 is apertured at 68 for the release of the air passing through passage 53.
A retainer 82 loosely attaches plate 38 to the dispenser 28 to avoid having to hold independent parts when refilling the supply chamber 64. There is sufficient space between retainer 62 and plate 38 to permit the dispenser unit to turn as plate 33 remains stationary. The distance of the threads on the dispenser 28 will determine the space.
To operate for refilling, remove the dispenser 28 which removes plate 38 by means of the retainer 62. Pour dentifrice into chamber B4 until it reaches the level of the anchor nut 28. Then replace the dispensing unit and plate 38. To dispense the dentifrice unscrew plug 44 by means of end 56 and push it in and out holding the body in an upright position. After obtaining a suficient quantity of dentifrice the plug is replaced and the bottom cover 6E is placed on the end of the body.
The spring 48 and the end of the plug d4 having the seat 46 therein may be eliminated and the dentifrice shaken into the palm of the hand for the use thereof, and the retainer t2 may be omitted as well as the lockwasher 2 by cementing the anchor nut 20 to the body i8.
It is believed that the operation and construction of the device will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. In a toothbrush, an elongated substantially hollow handle oval shape in cross section, a brush head mounted in one end of the handle and eX- tending therefrom, a cap also oval shape in cross section covering the brush head and frictionally mounted on the handle, a cover removably mounted in the opposite end of the handle, said handle having ribs with threaded inner edges spaced from the end thereof in which the cover is mounted, a pump housing with openings in the walls thereof positioned in said handle, means removably mounting the pump housing in the said ribs, a piston having a tubular stem positioned in said housing, a perforated head on the outer end of the piston stem and a cap on the outer end of the pump housing providing guide means for the piston stem.
2. In a toothbrushas 'described in claim l, resilient'I means in the pump housing urging the piston outwardly.
3. A toothbrush as described in claim 1, in
which the means mounting the pumphousing in the ribs comprises a threaded nut in which the said pump housing is threaded.
