W. W. FIOHTENBERG.
NEGKTIE SHIELD. No. 247,184. Patented Sept. 20,1881.
' hm ltd-M UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
WERNER W. FIOHTENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKTlE-SHIELD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 247,184, dated September 20, 1881. Application filed June 22, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WERNER W. FICHTEN- BERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented acertain new and useful Improvement in Brace and Shaping Pieces for Neekwear-Shields; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a brace and shaping piece for neckwear-shields which shall be made of corrugated metal in order to cheapen the cost of manufacturing said brace and shaping piece, and also to produce a better and more etfectire brace than has been done heretofore.
My invention consists in taking a narrow piece of metal, either flat orround, and corrugating it, and then laying it horizontal upon one side of the shield of a neckwear and fastening it thereto in any suitable manner.
It also consists in taking a similar piece of corrugated metal and laying it horizontally and obliquely on one side of the shield and fastening it thereto in any suitable manner. In this case the angular or oblique portion of the brace-piece will serve as a holder for a pin, or when the metal used is round a pin-point can be fastened or welded onto it.
To further describe my invention more fully I refer to the drawings, of which- Figure 1 is afront view of a neekwear-shield with the corrugated brace and shaping piece attached thereto horizontally. Fig. 2 is afront view of a neckwear-shield with the corrugated brace and shaping piece attached thereto horizontally and obliquely and with pin attached.
A represents the shield; B, the brace and shaping piece, made of flat or round metal and corrugated, as shown. This corrugated brace and shaping piece B is either laid upon the shield A horizontally, as shown in Fig. 1, or horizontally and obliquely, as shown in Fig. 2, and is fastened to the shield in any suitable manner; and the object of placing the brace B horizontally and obliquely is that the oblique part a can or may be used as a holder for the pin (1, but the pin is only fastened to the part 0' when the brace is made of flat metal, but when the brace B is made of round metal the pin 11, made out of the oblique part c of the brace B or a separate point, may be welded on.
The object of making the brace and shaping piece B corrugated is that of cheapuess, for the said braces can be made of lighter metal; second, usefulness, for thebrace can be used to better advantage and made to conform more easily to the shape required.
That I claim is The corrugated brace and shaping piece B, placed upon the shield A horizontally or horizontally and obliquely, as shown, in combination withv the shield A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
WE RNER W. FICHTENBERG.
