Description

v April 19,, 19 5-9. MIFANKELSTEIN I 2,457,585
CUTTING KNIFE Filed Jan. I50, 1947 Patented Apr. 19, 1949 UNITED STATES OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in a cutting knife adapted for cutting materials to be used as collars for shirts, or the like, and is a structure particularly adapted to be used with a cutting device illustrated and described in a copending application Serial Number 725,365, filed January 30, 1947, applicant Morris Finkelstein.
The particular object of this invention is to provide a block in which is secured a cutting knife having arranged therein a nick which makes an indicating mark on the material which is cut or trimmed by the cutting knife when in use.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a knife which is made in accordance with the illustrations and which reduces the cost of manufacturing, and provides an eificient cutting and trimming instrument.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my cutting knife as made in accordance with this invention;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view showing the same mounted in a head plate, which is shown in dotted lines; and
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional View, taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a knife carrying block having in one face thereof, and throughout its entire length, a groove 6, in which is mounted my improved cutting and trimmin knife 7 having arranged centrally of its ends a sharpened nick 8, which nick is provided to make identification marks on the material when cut, so that it can be properly fitted to the garment to which it is adapted.
It is to be understood that the knife blade 7 can be varied in its configuration and can be oppositely curved and have one end sharpened, as illustrated in Figure 7 of my co-pending application, and this oppositely curved blade with one end sharpened to form a cutting edge is so constructed as to cut and trim a different type of collar for a different type of garment.
It is to be understood that this type of knife is particularly and exclusively used in my improved cutting device and filed simultaneously herewith, and it is believed that this type of knife is new in itself and for the particular purpose for which it is used.
In the use of this knife, it is only necessary to mount it in a head plate, as shown in dotted lines, and mount the head plate to an automatic machine and the device is ready for use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A cutting knife of the class described, including a block having a groove extending the length of one face thereof, a cutting knife arranged and held in said groove, and an indicating marker centrally of the cutting edge of said knife and for the purpose specified.
2. A cutting knife of the class described, including a block having a groove throughout its length in one face thereof, a curved cutting blade carried in said groove, and means in the cutting edge of said blade to leave an indicating mark on the material cut thereby, and for the purpose specified.
MORRIS FINKELSTEIN.
