(Cl. 30-62) This invention relates to safety razors and more particularly to safety razors utilizing a single edge rectangular blade which may be in the form comfound on the market, or in a slightly modified form, as suggested herein.
An object of the invention is to provide a safety razor and safety razor blade holder of an approved and simplified structure which may be fabricated either from sheet resilient material, metal or plastic, or from elongated strips in the form of wire of any desired cross section.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved safety razor which will be safe and easily used, and which can'be fabricated to sell at a relatively low price.
Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
Two sheets of drawings accompany this application as a part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of one embodiment of the present invention showing the razor blade in position in the holder;

Figure 4 is a perspective of an improved razor blade for use in the holder of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a side elevation of a second modified form of the invention;
Figure 6 is a perspective of the head of the holder shown in Figure 5;
Figure 7 is a fragmentary cross section taken on line 1-1 of Figure 6;
Figure 8 is a side elevation of a third modified form of the invention, and
Figure 9 is a perspective view of the form illustrated in Figure 8.
All of the forms of the invention as herein illustrated are characterized by being constructed to provide holders having substantially parallel spaced lateral guard members 4-4, adapted in use to lay parallel with and against the front face of the razor blade 9 so as to constitute guards for the slide edges and the end corners of the cutting edge of the blade, and supports for said blade when in tensioned position in the holder. Associated with these lateral guard members 4-4 is a further guard member extending parallel with 2 and slightly spaced from the cutting edge of the razor blade and extendingfrom end to end of the same. Tensioning means is provided in each instance for holding the blade under tension in operative position, and suitable handles are asso ciated with each type of the holder.
Referring more particularly to the embodiment illustrated in Figures 1-4, the holder is shown fabricated from resilient sheet material, the body of which I is of general triangular shape having one corner 2 associated with the handle 3. A substantially rectangular part is cut from'the body I adjacent its front portion, which cut-out provides the laterally spaced side guard members 4-4 'whicha're formed of suflicient length'to permit their being bent upon themselves asat 5 "to provide rearwardly directed parts 1 adapted to resiliently press against the back face of the blade .9. The lateral guards are then further bent upon themselves as at 6 to extend in a. reverse and forward direction and are connected by a guardportion 8 extending from end to end of the holder and which may be slightly rolled as illustrated to make a smooth guard. The forward edge of the cut-out part of the holder may conveniently be notchedto provide rearwardly extending fingers l3 which extend back over the razor blade.
For positioning the blade in this form of the invention, a notch of groove I2 is formed in the body I parallel with the cut-out portion which defines the side guards 4-4 and rearwardly of said cut-out portion, and the razor blades 9 are formed with a lateral flange l0 along the edge opposite the hollow ground cutting edge H, and from the beveled face of the blade.
With this type of razor the blade 9 is positioned by sliding the same endwise with the flange H] in the groove l2. If a double-edged razor blade,
such as commonly on the market, is used with this type of holder it may be secured in proper relationship to the guard members 4-4 by means of projecting pins or studs 30 extending from the body I, as illustrated.
In the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figures 5-7, the holder is again formed from sheet material, but in this case the lateral guard members 4'-4' are of sufiicient length to be bent backwardly as at 5'-5' to form the back blade contacting members 7-|. Thence they are reversely bent as at 6-6 and extend forwardly, where a plurality of spaced slots l4 are cut from the body of the sheet to constitute a plurality of guard ribs l5, which are bent upon themselves to constitute conjointly a guard 8' extending from end to end of the razor blade 3.

The end of the body I' is bent rearwardly to constitute a protective bib 16 extending lengthwise of the blade and adapted to collect lather and shorn portions of hair from the razor blade. In this form of the invention the body part I is formed with a bead-like bend 1! adapted to engage the bacl; edge and resiliently hold the razor blade B, as illustrated in Figures 6 and I. lf'he metal can if desired be cut as a continuation rearwardly from the bend I! to form a handle H.
In. the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figures 8 and 9, the holder is formed from a single piece of elongated material in wire form, which wire may be of any desired cross section, round, circular or flat, and this piece of wire is bent to form the guard member 20 which is arranged to extend parallel with and spaced slightly forwardly of the blade B when The portions of the wire at the wardly, as at 2!, and thence are bent again as at 25 to constitute portions 26 adapted to contact and resiliently bear against the rear face of the blade B. The ends of the wire are again bent as at 24 and extended in two parallel spaced reaches 22-22, which are in turn bent as at 23-23 to engage the back edge of the razor blade B, and resiliently press said razor blade into proper operative relationship with the lateral guards 22-22 and 20. Thereafter, the ends of the wire are brought together and intertwined as at 21, and this intertwined portion may be bent as indicated at 28 to constitute a handle part, as desired.
Various modifications will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. Safety razor blade holder having spaced marginal end guard members arranged parallel in a common plane, said end members joined at their rear ends to a handle supported element and bent reversely at their forward ends to form forwardly positioned resilient pressure elements parallel with and closely spaced from said end members, said pressure elements reversely bent upon themselves to extend parallel therewith and having their forward ends connected by a forwardly positioned guard member.
2. The device of claim 1, with means adjacent the rear ends of the marginal guard members to engage a razor blade positioned between said end guard members and the pressure element parts and with the forward cutting edge of such blade engaging the bends connecting said guard members and pressure elements and with the guard member extending parallel with and slightly forward of a line connecting said bends.
3. Safety razor blade holder having spaced marginal end guard members arranged parallel in a common plane, means adjacent the rear ends of said end guard members to engage a razor blade, means intermediate said rear ends for securing a handle thereto, said end guard members bent reversely upon themselves at their forward ends to form resilient pressure elements parallel with and closely spaced from said end members, said pressure elements reversely bent upon themselves at their rear ends to extend forwardly parallel with said pressure elements and end guards, and having their forward ends connected by a forwardly positioned guard member.
