Display devices are sometimes. designed. in an. easel" formation and usually the easel is formed by some sort of a leg member extending from the main body part of the easel with an arrangement extending part way between the hinge and the end of the leg and the body for preventing relative swinging movement of the leg so that the device may maintain itself in a rather rigid formation and stand upright. This supporting structure at such a location between the leg and the body interferences with the use of an opening through the body which opening might be used for insertion of a box for display purposes.

An object of this invention is to provide a display in an easel-like formation in which an openll'lg may be provided in the face member or body for the reception of a box of merchandise.

Another object of this invention is to provide a very simple support for the leg member of an easel in attaching the same in a triangulation manner for rigidity of the device.

Another object of this invention is to provide an arrangement whereby parts of the face member may be held in a position to provide an opening in the face member with wall portions between the face member and leg which supports the face member in an easel-like manner.

Another object of this invention is to provide a very simple securing means for the leg which may be easily utilized for attaching the parts together.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In proceeding with this invention, I cut from sheet stock a face member or body in the desired shape with a portion extending from the body which may be folded rearwardly; and, at the end of the rearwardly extending portion, I provide a pocket. The supporting leg is hingedly attached in any suitable manner to the back of the body, usually as a separate piece, and may have its lower end positioned in the pocket to form by triangulation a support therefor.

With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the face member or body of the display which is formed of cardboard having an outer peripheral shape of a heart. The lower portion ll of this member is folded as at l2 to provide a rearwardly extending base strip I3 which has a pocket designated generally l4 provided on its end. This pocket l4 may be formed by folding the portion of the stock l5 upwardly and then again folding a narrow portion l6 at right angles to this portion I5, usually toward the face member H, and then again foldin this portion as at I! to provide a portion 18 parallel to the portion 15 and at a distance therefrom to provide a space l9. Again, by folding the portion l8 as at 20 and again as at 2|, I provide a lip 22 which overlaps the portion 15 and may be secured thereto by staples or cement. In this manner, the space 19 is formed as a pocket for the reception of the leg to be 'described.

The leg member 25 consists of a piece of cardboard which is folded as at 26 with a short portion 21 secured to the body In in any suitable manner such as by cement. This leg portion 25 is of a width at its lower end to be received in the space H of the pocket I; so that by reason of the face member, base strip l3 and leg 25 a triangulation support is provided which is rather rigid and will hold the face member in a position to display its obverse surface.

33 and 34 engaging the edge of the leg 25 so that they are held in a position to provide rearwardly extending sides for the opening. A box of merchandise may be set into this opening which provides a very convenient manner of display. The shape of the face member may be anything desired which would be appropriate either to the season or to the environment of the merchandise displayed.

In some cases instead of making the pocket l4 all of one piece of material, the upwardly folded portion [5 may have attached thereto a portion 40 with its ends folded forwardly as at 4| and The face again folded inwardly as at 42 to provide lips 43 to be secured to the portion I and provide a space 45 between the portions I5 and 40 for the reception of the end of a supporting leg. The device may be compactly folded by withdrawing the supporting leg 25 from the pocket and folding the tongue and pocket upwardly along the back of the face member I 0 and then folding the supporting leg over this tongue and pocket so that 3. a supporting leg member hinged to the upper portion of the face member, a strip extending rearwardly from the face member and provided with a pocket secured at a point spaced down-,

wardly from the hinge for the reception of the end of the leg member to provide triangulation rigidity, said pocket comprising portions toengage opposite surfaces and opposite edges of said leg member to hold it in position.

2. A display device as set forth in claim 1 wherein said pocket is on the end of a base strip folded to extend rearwardly from the lower edge ofsaid face member and the strip forms the bottom wall of said pocket.
