`1A"further. bject of the invention is t'oprovide acover hol'derY of this jcharacter embodying'a pair of rigid strips extending longitudinally under the pressing head of the machine, each strip having hooks adapted for engaging the edges of the cover together With flexible means extending transversely under the machine for connecting the pair of strips to each other and adapted for adjustment whereby to draw the cover tightly on the machine in a uniform manner both at a narrow and wide ends thereof.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cover holder of this character by means of which the cover may be secured easily and quickly in position and which at the same time is simple and practical in construction, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a pressing buck showing the cover in position thereon.

Figure 2 is a bottom plan view.

Figure 3 is an end elevational view.

Figure 4 is an enlarged detail of one of the transverse connecting members for the side strips of the cover holder and with parts broken away and shown in section, and

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the connector for one of the flexible members of the holder.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a conventional form of pressing buck on which a pressing pad 6 is mounted.

A removable cover 1 is provided for the pad, the cover being frequently removed for replacing the same after becoming worn or soiled.

In order to secure the cover in position I provide a holder which comprises a pair of relatively thin strips 8 and 9 of wood, light weight of ibra'c'kts' 'I2 "having 7a free edge jbetit irito lthe form of a hook I3 provided with a notch I4 adapted for receiving a cord or other flexible member I5 having a knot I6 engaged behind the hook I3 to retain the cord in the notch thereof.

The other end of the cord I5 is similarlyrlprovided With a knot I1 engaged in a notch of the hooked end I9 of a connecting plate 20 to which a link 2I is attached at one end, the other end of the link being pivotally mounted on a pin 22 extending transversely at one end of a connector 23.

The opposite end of the connector is provided with a screw 24 secured to the connector by means of a pin 25, the screw being threaded into a sleeve 26 having a head 21 at one end thereof, the sleeve being inserted through the strip 8 and retained therein by the head 21. The head 21 is provided with a kerf 28 adapted to receive a screwdriver to facilitate the threading of the sleeve into and out of position on the screw 24.

A handle 29 extends laterally from the connector 23 with a head 30 on its outer end and spaced from the connector to provide a ngergrip for securing .the connector against movement while the sleeve 26 is threaded on the screw 24.

The exible memberV I5 extends transversely under the pressing buck 5 and a plurality of thel transversely extending connecting members connect the strips 8 and 9 at longitudinally spaced intervals as shown to advantage in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings and by adjusting the sleeve 26 on the screw 24 the strips t and 9 may be adjusted When the knot I6 of the flexible member V|15 is i 3 removed from the hook I3 at one side of the holder the flexible member may then be wound around the handle 29 to prevent entanglement thereof when the holder is not in use.

It is believed that the details of construction, operation and advantages of the device will be readils7 understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.,v Y

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. In a pressing machine cover-holding device, the combination, which comprises a pad, a cover adapted for positioning over said pad, longitudinally disposed rigid strips associated With the..

opposite sides of said pad and` cover, hooks pivotally attached to said rigid strips for removably holding the edges of said cover, flexible elements pivotally atached to the strips at one side of the pad extending under the pad, threaded sockets aligned with said flexible elements rotatably mounted in the strips on the otherside of the pad, threaded studs extending from said sockets, links providing connecting means between said exible elements and studs, means pivotally connecting the links at one end to said studs, and means pivotally connecting the other ends of said links to said flexible elements.

2. In a pressing machine cover-holding device, the combination, which comprises a pad, a cover adapted for positioning over said pad, iongitudinaliy disposed rigid strips associated with the 4 opposite sides of said pad and cover, hooks pivotally attached to said rigid strips for removably holding the edges of said cover, flexible elements pivotally attached to the strips at one side of the pad extending under the pad, threaded sockets aligned with said exible elements rotatably mounted in the strips on the other side of the pad, threaded studs extending from said sockets, links providing connecting means between said ilexible elements and studs, means pivotally connecting the links at one end to said studs, means pivotally connecting the other ends of said links to said flexible elements, and hook-shaped elementspivotally mounted in the other ends of said linksremovably holding enlarged ends of said exible elements.
