In its preierredform the device comprises a wooden handle member having a cord, one end of which is adjustable in the handle and the other end of which is provided with a threading pin adapted to be inserted into the handle and interlocked removably with a spring latch member carried by the handle.
A special object is to provide an interlock which is cheap to make, simple to operate and yet unlikely to be damaged or get out of order.
with
Fig. 7 is a cross section of the latch member on the plane of the line 1-1 of Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged cross sectional view of one form of pin.
The handle I0 is preferably formed of wood and has passages such as H, l2 and I3 through which a cord l4 may be readily adjusted and held. A knot at one end limits the extension of the cord. Any excess oi. cord may be wound around the handle.
The other end of the cord is attached to a threading pin it adapted to be threaded through the fish to be carried. One end I! of this pin is tapered to facilitate threading and also to coact with the spring latch 18. This latch is: of an approximate L-shape having its arm l9 secured to the handle by screws 20, 20. The other arm has an opening 2| preferably of an approximate Y key-hole shape adapted to receive the tapered end I! of the pin it.
The handle III has a pocket 22 into which the latch l8 extends and which limits the movement of the latch. The handle also has a passage 23 slightly larger in diameterthan the pin end 11 through which the pin slides into the latch.
* Thelatch opening 2| is solocated with respect tothepassage 23 that when thepin is inserted its pointed tip engages thelower end of thelatch spring atthe smaller end of the opening inthe latch and automatically forces the latch to the dottedposition of Fig. 5. This lowers the opening and allows the end of the pin to pass through the upper and larger part of the opening 2! until the latch snaps back to engage the reduced neck 24 or the pin as shown in Fig. 1 without the necessity of depressing the latch by hand. The pocket or recess 22 may be closed at the bottom as shown in Figs.1 and 3 or open at the bottom as shown at any reasonable number of fish.
To release the pin IE it is necessary to depress the latch and at the same time retract the pin with the attached end of the cord. The pin may be of cylindrical cross section or oval as shown at 25 in Fig. 8. In the latter case the cord may be so attached that the pin can be released only when the pin is rotated to bring its major axis parallel with the longer vertical axis of the opening 2| thus giving greater security to the interlock.
1. A fish carrier comprising a handle member having a number of passages through one end, a cord having one end adjustably held in said passages, a transverse pocket in the other end of the handle member, a spring latch having an arm secured along the upper edge of the handle member and having a member extending into said pocket, said handle member having a pin passage in its end intersecting said pocket, a threading pin secured to the other end of the cord and having a tapered tip with a reduced neck, said spring member having an elongated opening adapted to receive the tipof the pin when inserted through said pin passage in the end of the handle member, the walls of the pocket limiting the movement of the spring member.
2. A fish holder comprising a handle member having a transverse pocket adjacent one end and a passage extending into said end and intersecting said pocket, a cord having one end secured to the handle member and having a taper-ended pin insertable into said passage and an L-shaped leaf spring latch having one end securedalong the edge of said handle member and having its other end extending into said pocket, said latter end having an elongated opening adapted to receive and hold the tapered end of said pin when inserted through said passage into said latch end. in said pocket, said latch spring being depressible to disengage the latch end from said pin and permit withdrawaljoi said pinifromsafc'f member; the walls of the pocket limiting the movement of the end of the latch spring when the pin is inserted and when the pin is pulled outwardly without depressing the latch springe 3. A fish carrier comprising a, handle memberhaving a transverse pocket adjacentiloner and a passage extending into said iend andin tersecting said pocket, a cord having one end" latch.
