UNTTED STATES PATENT OEErcEa LYMAN P. CONVERSE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CRAGIN BROTHERS & CHANDLER, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED TOY WHISTLE AND WIND-WHEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,452, dated August 9, 1881.
Application filed June 13, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LYMAN P. CONVERSE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Combination Toy Whistle and VVind-VVheel, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to produce a novel and simple toy which can be manufac- 1o tnred at verylittle expense, and which can be manipulated by and amuse and gratify children.
' In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of the toy. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
The tube cis supplied with an ordinary concave and convex whistle, l, the vent being above or below the center, as may be desired. The frame?) is fixed to the tube a, and is shaped so as to form bearings for the spindlet' and allow free rotation of the wheel 0. The spindle z, to which the wheel 0 is fixed, extends through and beyond the frame or bearing 1). Arms (1 are fixed to the spindle, and are supplied with concave-arm wind-wheels j, which have a pivotal connection at or about 6. On blowing into the tube a the whistle is made to operate, and the exhaust-air from the whistlevent forces the wheel 0 in motion. The arms at, being likewise rotated, the pivoted wind- 0 wheels are also caused to revolve.
(No model.)
If desired, the arms 61 and cup or concave shaped wind-wheels f may be dispensed with, and the tube a, wheel a, whistle l, bearing b, and spindle i employed.
Having thus fully described my invention, 5 what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a combination toy whistle and windwheel, the tube a, whistle l, bearing 1), fixed to and parallel with the tube, spindle t, pivoted 40 at right angles to tube a, and wheel 0, so arranged that the exhaust-air from the vent of the whistle comes into contact with-the arms of said wheel above or below its center, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a combination toy whistle and windwheel, the tube a, whistle 1, bearing b, spindle t', arms d, and cup or concave armed windwheelsf, substantially as and for the purposes specified. 50
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this lstday ofJnnc,
LYMAN P. ooxvnesn. [L. s.]
