My invention relates to childrens. garments and bed covers in general, and more particularly to a baby blanket adapted to prevent the baby from throwing off the bed covers.

An object of my invention is to provide an improved baby blanket.

Another object of myinvention is to 'provide a blanket cover for a babywhich will permit free arm and body movement, but prevent displacement of the cover from the baby.

Still another object of my invention. is to provide a blanket cover adaptedtobe secured to the arm and shoulders of the baby, and prevent possibility of choking or smothering.

Other objects and fuller understanding of my plan form of an improved embodiment of my blanket wrapperr The blanket wrapper is indicated generally by the reference character III, and comprises a main body portion 25 and two cross strap members II and I2. The cross strap member I'I ;is; :provided with a longitudinal slit I I3 therein near the placeof joinder of the cross strap-II with the body portion 20. The cross strap member I2 is provided with a longitudinal slit I l therein placed in a position similar to that of slit I3 in the cross strap member I I. The

slits I3 and I l serve as arm slits and the arms of a baby may be extended through the slits to allow the cross strap members II and I2 to extend around the shoulders of the baby. In other words, the babys arms are extended through the slits I3 and M to their full length, and the cross straps II and I2 therefore are interlocked with the babys arms at the babys shoulders.

The body portion 20 is provided with a, cross strap slit I5 and a cross strap slit It. The cross strap member II is looped under the babys body after the left arm has been extended through the slit I3, and the end of the cross strap member II is threaded through the slit It as illustrated in the Figure 2. The cross strap member I2 is likewise moved under the babys body after the babys right arm has been placed through the slit M. The end of the cross strap I2 is then threaded through the slit I5 as illustrated in the Figure 2. Thereafter, the cross strap members.

(Cl. 123-134) I 2 I tied to the crib-by means of tie cords I8 and I9 provided thereon, and. the sides of body, 20 may be likewise secured to the crib by the tie cords H, but it will be observed that no matter how tightly these cross strap members are pulled,the material of the blanket body 2% or the cross strap members II and I2 will never be able to press tightly against the neck or throat of the baby. On the other hand, the cross strap members H and I2 may be allowed to be rather loose in order to permit the baby a degree of freedom for movement in his crib. Nevertheless, the baby will be unable to crawl down under the blanket, and no amount of turning or twisting will cause the cross strap members. or the blanket to press against his throat and cause choking. Therefore, after thebaby is. properly placed in my improved blanket wrapper he is perfectlysafe for the night and all worry is removedthat choking or smothering might result.

It isthe primary purpose of my improvedbaby wrapper to keep a baby properly covered, and prevent choking or smothering the baby. This purpose is achieved by my cross strap. construction, and the interfitting arm openings in the crossstraps. erence character 22. It may be observed in Figure 2 that the end portions 2| and 22 are positioned substantially under the arm pits of the child. The slits I3 and I4 divide the cross straps II and I2 into shoulder portions 23 and under arm portions 24. In the embodiment of my invention illustrated, the cross strap members II and I2 join in a central area cover portion 25 which is adapted to lay over the chest and lower part of the front of the neck of a child when lying on its back, or which is adapted to lay over the back and lower part of the rear of the neck when lying on its stomach.

Therefore, with the arms of the child extendin through the slits l3 and I4, any downward movement of the child toward the foot of the bed will tend to .pull downwardly on the end portions 2| and 22 in the direction of the arrows at the end of the slits I3 and I l, and therefore pull the central area portion 25 downwardly. Likewise, any upward movement of the child away from the foot of the bed will push upward ly on the shoulder portions 23 and pull the central area 25 therealong. In other words, the interfitting construction of the straps II and I2 will cause the central area portion to move with the child and keep him covered at all times, but

absolutely prevent him from choking or crawling beneath the covers.

My improved wrapper may also be used. to cover the child in a large bed as well as in a crib. For example, at times the occasion arises when it is necessary to put the child on an adult bed and the tie cords ll, 18 and I9 will not reach the side of the bed. In such a case the ends of the cross straps II and 12 may be pinned or therwise secured to thebody portion 20, for example at the place indicated by reference character 26 in Figure 2 of the drawing or secured to any convenient part of the bed, and are thus secured against removal from the baby.

Although I have described my invention in its preferred form with a certain degree of particularity, it is understood that the present disclosure of the preferred form has been made only by way of example and that numerous changes in the details of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

I claim:

, 1. A baby wrapper blanket, comprising a blanket body having a first and second loopable cross strap member, each cross strap member having an arm slit therethrough, said first cross strap extending outwardly to one side of the blanket, said first cross strap having an end, a slit in said blanket body near a side thereof opposite the side, direction in which the first cross strap extends, the first cross stnap end being loopable under the blanket to enwrap the baby and extend through said slit in the blanket body opposite the first cross strap, said second cross strap extending outwardly to the side opposite from the first cross strap, said second cross strap having an end, a slit in said blanket body near a side there'- of opposite the first slit, the second cross stnap end being loopable under the blanket to enwrap the baby and extend through said opposite side slit.

2. A baby wrapper blanket, comprising a blanket body portion, a first cross strap extending outwardly in a first angular direction from said blanket body, |a second cross strap extending outwardly in a second angular direction from said blanket body, each said cross strap having an arm slit therethrough, said blanket body having a first slit for receiving said first cross strap therethrough, and said blanket body having a second slit for receiving said second cross strap therethrough, a plurality of the cords :around the edge of the blanket body, and a tie cord at the end of each cross arm, said tiecords serving to secure said baby wrapper to a crib bed.

3. A baby wrapper blanket, comprising a blanket body portion and two cross strap members, each said cross strap member having an arm slit adapted to permit the arm of a, baby to pass therethrough, said blanket body portion having two cross strap receiving slits therein, said cross strap members being adapted to cross under the baby and extend through said cross strap receiving slits, thereby holding the baby properly covered and preventing choking of the baby.

A' baby wrapper blanket, comprising a blanket body portion, a first cross strap member having an armslit therethrough, said arm slit dividing said cross strap member in the area of said slit into an under-arm portion and a shoulder portion, a second cross strap member having an arm slit therethrough, said arm slit dividing said cross strap member in the area of said slit into an under-arm portion and a shoulder portion, and a central area cover portion between said first and second cross strap members, said arm slits of the cross stnap member being adapted to receive the arms of a child therethrough a d 0 3 interfit with the :arms of the child, and said cross strap members being extendable about the body of the child and securable to hold the child wrapped therein, whereby any downward movement of the child will cause the closely interfitting underarm portions of the arm strap members to move downwardly with thechild and move the said central area cover portion downwardly, and whereby any upward movement of the child will cause the closely interfitting shoulder portions of the arm strap members to move upwardly with the child and move the said central area cover portions upwardly, said movements of the' central area cover portion with the child serving to keep the child properly covered at all times.
