The'lavatory is of conventional form and was originally constructed-tribemounted upon a cabthe floor. Accordingly, the main objects of the invention are: to provide an angular brace between the flange located at the rear of the lavatory and the bowl portion thereof in position to engage the wall upon which the lavatory is mounted; to provide an angular brace between the rear flangeof the lavatory and the bowl which has full contact with the wall upon which the lavatory is mounted; to form a box section reinforcing portion for a lavatory medially of the side edges thereof by welding an angle-shaped brace to the rear flange and the bottom of the bowl portion of the lavatory about the drain opening thereof; to provide an angle-shaped brace between the back flange and bowl portion of the lavatory having apertures therethrough through which the overflow drain extends as Well as the operating rod for the drain valve; and in general to provide a reinforcing and supporting bracket for a lavatory which is simple in construction and which positively maintains the lavatory in position on a hanger attached to the wall.

Other objects and features of novelty of the invention will be specifically pointed out or will become apparent when referring, for a better understanding of the invention, to the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of a lavatory reinforced by a bracket embodying features of this invention;

The bowl or sump'e'l l has a drain opening 29 in the bottom and an overflow opening 2| in the rear wall.

A drain pipe 22 interconnects the drain openlugs 20 and 2! when secured to the wall 23 of the bowl I l by suitable means, herein illustrated as by a screw 24. The screw secures a bell cover 25 to the front surface of the wall and the drain pipe 2?. to the rear surface thereof forming a drain for the opening. The lower portion 26 of the drain pipe is sealed to the bottom drain opening 20 in the conventional manner by a tube 21 which extends through the drain opening 20, the end 26 of the drain pipe 22, and the sealing washers 28, all of which are secured in sealed relation by the nut 3|.

For reinforcing the bowl H and the flange l8, an angle bracket 32 is provided having a wide web 33 and projecting flanges 34 along a wall portion 35 and an arm portion 36 which are in unit angular relation to each other. The arm portion 36 is extended angularly at 31 to mate with the lower surface of the bottom of the bowl 1 l to which it is secured, preferably by arc-welding, about the edge, as at 38. The projecting portion 31 of the arm 36 contains a central opening 4| through which the tube 21 extends. The opening 4| is extended at 42 for receiving the drain pipe 22 which projects therethrough. The web 33 of the arm 36 also contains an aperture 43 through which a rod 44 extends for the purpose of operating the drain valve in the drain pipe, not herein illustrated. The rod 44 extends through the fixture l4 and has on its upper end an operating knob 46 by which the rod is raised and lowered to operate the drain valve to closed, and open positions, respectively.

The upper end of the wall portion 35 of the bracket 3'2 contains an offset portion 41 to clear the hanger I9, which portion engages the flange l8 and is spot-welded or otherwise secured thereto, as at 48. The hanger [9 extends substantially the length of the flange I8, that is to say, the width of the lavatory, and has the central section cut away at 49 to clear the bracket 32. The upper end of the hanger I9 is flanged outwardly at 5| for receiving the flange I8 which projects thereover the entire length of the flange except for the cut-away portion 49.

The bracket 32 not only reinforces the rear por- 7 tion of the lavatory but provides a broad web portion 33 which engages the plaster or other wall material, to rigidly brace the lavatory from the wall. By mounting the bracket midway between the side edges of the lavatory, it is substantially hidden from view by the side flanges Hi, the rear ends of which also engage the wall and assist in supporting the lavator rigidly therefrom. The hanger I9 is secured to the wall in any suitable manner, herein illustrated as by screws 52.

It will be noted more specifically in Fig. 3 that the ends of the side aprons 16 of the lavatory are provided with inwardly directed flanges 53 which engage the rear wall with a broader surface than the thickness of the material of the apron so as to prevent it from cutting into the plaster or other soft material from which the wall may be constructed. It will be understood that the bracket 32 may be made integral with the hanger l9 and attached to the bowl of the lavatory by the tube 2'! when secured in the drain opening of the bowl. provided for hanging the lavatory by a bracket on the Wall without any danger of damaging the wall or the lavatory sagging after being hung thereon.

A lavatory having a top platform portion and a bowl extending downwardly therefrom containing a drain aperture, an apron extending downwardly from said platform portion at the front and at the sides, a flange extending downwardly at the rear of the lavatory, an angle-shaped bracket disposed medially of the apron portions at the side of the lavatory having a wide web portion in the plane of the flange for engagement with the wall upon which the lavatory is supported, said bracket having a frontwardly projecting portion containing an aperture aligned with the drain aperture of the bowl, a tubular fitting projecting through said bowl and said bracket apertures in secured and sealed relation thereto, a hanger secured to the wall and having an outwardly projecting lip for receiving said flange at the rear of said platform portion, said bracket having an offset adjacent to said flange with a portion engaging the surface of the flange to which it is spot-welded, said oifset forming a recess below the flange for receiving said hanger.
