EDWARD P. GORBY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
COOKlNG-STOVEQ SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 244,859,6lated July 26, 1881. Application filed May 3, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD P. CORBY, of St. Louis, Missouri, have made a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in
which- Figure l is a vertical section, taken on the line as w of Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a plan; Fig. 3, a vertical section, taken on the line y y of Fig. 2, and showing, partly in section and partly in side elevation, acooking-stove in connection with the improvement, and showing, also, a joint of pipe attached to the collar of the attachment; Fig. 4, a'front elevation of the attachment, and Fig. 5 a side elevation of the ash-pan and grate used in the attachment.
The same letters denote the same parts.
The aim of the present improvement is, mainly, to provide means whereby the advantages of what is termed a summer cookstove can be conveniently obtained in connection with theordinary large cookingstove. It has relation to the means used in supporting the fuel and ashes in the attachment, and in admitting the air thereto.
In the drawings, A, Fig. 3, represents a cooking-stove of the usual construction.
B represents afuel-cha'mber, supported and connected with the stove A by means of the pipe or tube 0, the latter at its lower end heing attached to the collar to of the stove, and
at its upper end leading into or connecting with the chamber B, and so that when it is desired to use the stove Ain the ordinary manner the products of combustion can escape through the tube 0 and chamber B, as through an ordinary escape-pipe. The chamber B in its general outline may resemble the usual summer cook-stove, having the top b,lids I) b, and collar '1).
D represents an ash-pan having the flange d and air-holes d, the latter being arranged in the shell of the pan, near the upper end thereof.
- The pan is supported in position to receive the ashes from the chamber B,and so as to prevent the ashes from falling through the tube 0 into the stove A.- This is conveniently effected by letting the flange (I rest upona ledge, c, which may be either in the lower end of the chamber B or in the tube G. Agrate, E, rests upon the pan D. Both pan and grate are detachable, being made to be withdrawn from the tube 0 and chamber B, when desired, as when the main stove A alone is being used. The chamber B may also have a register, F, to admit air to the chamber above the ash-pan D. The pan D and tube 0 and chamber Bare relatively so shaped as to provide for the passage of air through the tube 0, around the pan and to the holes (1, and thence upward into and through the chamber B and exit G; for when it is desired to use the attachmentB G D E as a summer cookstove the air may be supplied to the fuel upon the grate E, either through the flue a of the stoveA and thence through the tube 0, holes (1, and grate E, or through the registerF; or the air may be simultaneously supplied through the tube 0 and register F, as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 3.
By arranging the holes 61 near thetop of the pan Dthe ashes can be caught in the pan and kept from falling into the tube C. It is sometimes, however, an advantage to admit the air exclusively through the register F, as whenit is desired to check the tire in the chamber B, or to cool the top I).
I claim- 1. In combination with a stove, A,the chamber B, tube 0, and grate E, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a stove,A,thechan1- ber B, grate E, pan D, and tube 0, substantiall y as described.
3. The combination of the grate E, chamber B, tube 0, and pan D, having the holes 01, substantially as described.
4. In combination with a stove, A, the tube 0, grate E, and the chamber B, having an ashpan and a register, F.
5. The combination of the stove A, grate E, tube 0, and chamber B, having the register F, substantially as described.
6. The'combination of the stove A, tube 0, chamber B,'having the register F, the pan D, having the holes d, and the grate E, substantially as described.
EDWARD P. OORBY.
