y.This invention relates generally to improvements.' in card cases, but more speciiically to a double case adapted to carrytwo packs of playing cards.

The main object of the invention resides in the production of cases into which. two, packs lof cards maybe leasily placed' and from which the removal of each pack of cards is facilitated by diVerg-lng each caseof the `double case about a lower hinge or fold.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a doubl-e case for playing cards wherein the individual cases are joined together by at least a common bottom wall to permit a hinge movement about an axis common to the lower and opposing transverse edges of the individual cases.

A further object of the invention residesl in the provi-sion vof a double case for packs of playing cards wherein means are provided to project each pack of playing cards a distance above each case depending upon the angular displacement between lthe cases to facilitate removal of each l Claim. Conversely, upon the reduction of the an- Y guiar displacement between the cases the packs of playing cards automatically are lowered within each case until a normal enclosed position is attained upon complete closure of the double case about the hinge or fold line joining 'the cases at the bottom walls.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a dcu'ble case for double packs of playing cards which is simple -in construction, convenient .to use and economical to manufacture.

These objects and other incidental ends and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear in the progress of the disclosure and as pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the `double case in operative position wherein each pack of playing cards is projected above the mouth of each case by virtue of lan intermediate open position of the double case.

'In accordance with the invention and the preferred form shown, the double case is comprised of single cases A and B each of the ca-ses A and cards lie below oralon'g the -o-pen-topedges of the case.

Cases lA and- B arev suitably joined together whereby the` rear wal-lis` Iii normally are in abutment when the double case is in closed position and diverge from each other about the lower and inner transverse edges I5 when the case is'in open and card-projecting position. As shown lthe means for joining case A and B consists of an elongated strip I6 which is secured to the front walls I0 of each of the cases A and B and to the bottom walls I4 in any suitable manner as by an adhesive. The b-ottom of the elongated strip I6 indicated by I '6a serves as the hinge member along an intermediate line of fold I1. Suitable locking mean-s for cases A and B may `be associated with the elongated strip I6 such as a ap I8 secured to the elongated strip I6 adjacent the front wall of pack B and a loop 'I9 secured to the elongated strip I adjacent the front wall Iof case A.

The means employed for projecting the packs of cards lin cases A and B as shown consists of tape means secured between the cases A and B. Thus tape 20 is secured lat `one end to the inner surface of front wall I0 adjacent the upper edge thereof as at 2| and proceeds through slit 22 lof the rear` wall of case A and is anchored at the -rear wall 4of ca-se B at a point opposite slit 22 as indicated by numeral 213. Tape 24 is anchored at the rear wall of case A at a point indicated by numeral 25 and proceeds through a slit 26 in the rear wall II of case B and is anchored at the front wall of case B as indicated by numeral 21. l

It is .to be observed that tapes 20 and v24 proceed from the rear wall II of case A below the upper edge and along a line parallel therewith while the anchor point 23 of tape 20 and the slit 26 through which tape 214 passes also lie along a parallel line and the same distance below the upper edge of the rear wall II of case B.

Thus as shown in Figures 2 and 3 tape 24 is adapted to project the pack of cards within case B While tape 2i] is adapted to project the pack of cards within cas-e A when packs A and B are moved or a-re diverged about the fold line I1 of the .bottom wall I'Sa of the strip. 'I'he weight of each pack of cards when closing the cases A' and B will cause 'the tapes 20 and .24 to assume .the positions shown in Figures 2 and 3 while the open vposition of cases A and B will` force the

20 and 24 to .assume the positions shown in Figure 1.

Thus has been described a double case for two packs of cards wherein no efort i5 required to draw out each pack of cards from each case by the fingers since the slightest angular position between cases A and B will cause an equal projection of each pack of cards from the mouth of each case.

By diverging cases A and B completely for one hundred eighty degrees, it is possible for cases A and B to assume a co-extensive position and in this

20 and 24 would lie along the rear Walls l l of cases A and B. For this purpose it may be desirable to join the rear walls ll of each case as by a strip 2-8, as shown in Figure 1.

I claim:

A case for playing cards comprising a pair of compartments each having front, rear, side and bottom walls, means `connecting the compartments at the bottom walls for angular movement about contacting edges of said bottom Walls, a tape member having la loop portion to support a pack Y 4 of cards in each compartment, each loop portion having one end fixed to normally contacting front and rear walls of the respective compartments and the other end penetrating`the opposite wall of the respective compartments and xed to said lopposite Wall whereby on separation of the compartments during relative angular movement the loops are raised carrying the pack of cards above the tops thereof and on a bringing together of the compartments the weight of each pack of cards causes a descension thereof and a lowering of the loops supporting the same.
