Description

Patented July 27, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to cushions and has for an object to provide a cushion attachable to the body of a truck driver, invalids or others who must remain seated for many hours at a time.
Another object of my invention is to provide a combination seat and back supporting cushion attachable to the body of its user.
A further object of this invention is to provide an inflatable body conforming cushion.
A still further object of the invention is to pro-- vide a body conforming inflatable cushion having means whereby various sections thereof may be inflated to different degrees of inflation.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of my device,
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cushion shown in its operative position.
In the accompanying drawings as above enumerated and in the following specification, like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout and in which l9 indicates my invention which consists of a pad H formed in sections l2 and I3, and to the upper edge 14 of which a belt I5 is fixedly secured, said belt being provided with free portions I6 and I1 adapted to fit around the waist of the user and be secured thereto by a buckle l8.
The sections l2 and I3 are separated by stitching or otherwise along the line l9 to serve as a hinge connection between said sections. The lower section l3 of the device is bifurcated to simulate a pair of trousers or shorts, the legs 29 and 2| of which are provided with straps 22 and 23 fixed to the rear edges 24 and 25 thereof, and are adapted to be secured to the legs of the wearer by thereon for a long period of time. However, the said sections 12 and I3 may be formed of airtight material to provide two chambers l2 and I3 formed by the walls 28 and 29, and 30 and 3| respectively, which may be filled with air through the valves 32 and 33. In this arrangement, the section 12 forms a back rest, and the section 13 forms a seat which may be independently filled with air to an extent which will best suit the user. It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
A cushion conformable to the contour of a wearers body comprising an inflatable bifurcated seat portion and an inflatable back supporting portion separated by a transverse line of stitching serving as a hinged connection between said portions, a body encircling strap attached to the upper end of the back-supporting portion of said cushion, leg encircling straps attached to the terminal ends of said bifurcated seat portion of said cushion, and means for independently inflating each portion of said cushion.
