Referring now in detail to the illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements.
This invention has been devised to provide a handy and eicient sander and is adapted to use conventional size standard sandpaper and the like. Certain curves and contours are provided in this device for reaching in close or conned spaces and other portions are so contoured to be especially adaptable for use in sanding various shaped articles.
A pair of blocks I0 and I 2 respectively, preferably wooden, are provided with rounded edges I4 and IB at the rst marginal edge thereof and inclined edges I8 and 20 at the opposite marginal faces. A hinge 22 is provided on the inner faces of said blocks adjacent the rounded edges I4 and IB. The construction of the said hinge 22 is preferably a simple strip of fabric however, it is apparent that a piano hinge or the like may be used in lieu thereof.
A continuous strip of web member 24 is provided on the outer faces of said block members and is curved in slightly between said blocks. Any

pins 3 to be used as thumb buttons or actuating means. The operation of the said latch is deemed quite obvious. The said slot members are simply folded together and the member 36 is actuated to the staple clasping position or staple disengaging position.
Forming another important portion of the present invention is the extension means 50 shown best in Figure 3. A simple plate 52 is provided with a right angular marginal flange 54 at one end thereof. The said marginal flange 54 is adapted to be received in the said slots 28 and 30, while the body portion of said extension 50 is adapted to protrude from between said blocks at the said inclined edges I8 and 20. Since the ange 54 is received in the said slot, a cut-out 56 is provided in said flange to avoid any possible interference with the latching means. The marginal edge opposite said flange is folded back to form a rather sharp leading edge 58 for reaching certain corners which might be otherwise difdcult to abrade. It is here noted that the said extension 50 is covered with suitable abrading means 26 as described hereinbefore. It is noted at this point that the invention contemplates the use of different gauge abrading means for each component of the invention. Accordingly, if it is desired, a relatively heavy or relatively light abrading means may be used on the said member lill while different means are used in conjunction with the blocks I0 and I2,

t is apparent that a device has been described hereinabove capable of performing all of the objects specifically innumerated as well as many others. It is further apparent that there has been `described a single preferred embodiment of the instant invention, and various changes including omissions and additions may be made without departing from the purview of the instant invention. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope ofthe following claims.
Havin-g thus Idescribed this invention What is claimed as novel and improved is as follows:
1. A sander comprising a pair of hinged abrasive sheet supporting blocks having slots in their adjacent faces, latch means mounted on` said blocks and received between said blocks, detachable abrading means secured between said blocks 4 edge being folded thereby forming a sharp saniding surface at the end thereof.
4. In a sanding device, a pair of hinged blocks having curved edges, hinge means at said curved edges, inclined edges opposite said curved edges, abrading means on said blocks, latch means between said blocks, removable abrading means between said blocks and extending from between said inclined edges, said removable abrading means comprising a plate having abrading surfaces thereon, a flange at one marginal edge thereof adapted to be received within said slots and the other marginal edge being fol-ded thereby forming a sharp sanding surface at the end thereof.
5. In a sanding device, a pair of hinged blocks having curved edges, hinge means at said curved edges, inclined edges opposite said curved edges,
and extending therefrom, said latch means including a, slide secured in one of said slots, a latch on said slide and a staple in the other of said slots. Y Y
2. A sander comprising a pair of hinged blocks, latch means on said blocks received between said blocks, abrading means on said blocks, removable abrading means securedv between said blocks and extending therefrom, said removable abrading means comprising a plate having abrading surfaces thereon, a flange at one marginal edge thereof adapted to be received within said slots and the other marginal edge being folded thereby forming a sharp sanding surface at the end thereof.
3. A sander comprising a pair of hinged blocks,
latch means on said blocksreceived between said blocks, abrading means on said blocks, removable abrading means secured between said blocks and extending therefrom, said latch means including a slide secured in one of said slots, a keeper on said slide and a staple in the other end of said slots, said removable abrading means comprising a plate having abrading surfaces thereon, a flange at one marginaledge thereof adapted to be received within said slots and the other` marginal abrading means on said blocks, latch means be- Y tween said blocks, removable abrading means between said blocks and extending from between said inclined edges, said latch means including complemental slots in said blocks, a slide secured in one of said slots, a keeper on said slide and a staple in the other of said slots.
