UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DEWEY F.-ADAMS, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
SLEEVE-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,364, dated July 19, 1881.
Application filed June 27, 1881. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DEWEY F. ADAMS, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sleeve-Buttons; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My improvement consists in a button'having a shoe'of round or oval wire, in the form of an open ring, with beveled ends, and a T- shaped post composed of two pieces of round or oval wire secured to the button-head and to the shoe.
The object of my improvementis to produce a button of the spiral-shoe variety which will present no sharp or angular edges to the buttonhole, to cut or fray the same, and the shoe of which can be made of plated stock without exposing edges of base metal to view.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 represents in perspective a sleeve-button embody- Fig. 2-shows the same in elevation. y, Fig. 3 represents the shoe and post in detail, and Fig.4 shows a bottom view of the button.
A is the button-head, to which is secured the post B. This post is composed of two pieces of round or oval wire, I) b, which are joined to form the letter T.
O is the shoe, which is composed of round or oval wire bent into the form of anopen ring andhaving beveled ends 0 c. The end 0 is preferably bent upward a little, in order that the button may be more easily removed. The shoe 0 is secured to the ends of the head of the T-shaped post, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4.
A button is thus provided which is inexpensive in construction, and has a comparatively flat back, which will not cut or fray the buttonhole, and which can be made of plated stock without exposing edges of base metal to view.
If desired, the wires 1) b, composing the T- sliaped post B, may be flattened on their adjacent sides, to reduce the longer diameter of the post.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- As an improved article of manufacture, a button having the T-shaped post B, composed of the bent wires b I), and the wire shoe 0, in the form of an open ring having beveled ends, substantially as described and shown.
