Description

Feb. 3, 1948. E, T, HALL 2,435,349
WALLPAPER PERFORATOR Filed Aug. l0, 1945 Inventor EIULIS T. HALL @www W Patented Feb. 3, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WALLPAPER PERFORATOR Eulis T. Hall, Kansas City, Mo.
Application August 10, 1945, Serial No. 610,154
2 Claims. (Cl. 164-99) This invention relates to workmens equipment and has for its object to provide means wherebr moisture may quickly penetrate paper on a wal in order that it will be thoroughly softened for rapid removal.
An object of this invention is to provide means whereby paper to be removed from a wall may be very closely and quickly perforated for the admission of moisture.
A further object of my invention is to provide a rotatable cylinder upon which is mounted a pair of semi-cylindrical steel plates thickly surfaced with very sharp, short points which n being lightly run over the paper on a wall will very closely perforate or puncture the same whereby moisture applied thereto will quickly penetrate to the pasted side thereof in order to soften the dried paste as well as the paper itself in order that it may be rapidly removed from the wall.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention,
Figure 2 is an end elevational view thereof,
Figure 3 is a detail plan view of a handle receiving member, and
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
In the accompanying drawings as above enumerated and in the following specification, like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout and in which III, indicates my invention which comprises a cylinder I I, upon which is mounted a pair of semi-cylindrical members I2 and I3, which are secured to the block Il, by screws I4. The members I2 and I3, are provided with a series of rows of slightly spaced pins or the like I5, extending entirely around the cylinder. Sockets I6 and I1, are provided in the ends I8 and I9, of the cylinder I I, to receive the inturned ends 20 and 2 I, of the spindle member 22, to which the handle 23, is Xed by means of the centrally disposed shank 24, of the member 22. This device rolled lightly over a papered Wall will puncture the paper in very closely connected apertures for the admission of moisture, whereby the paste to which the paper is adhering will be softened and practically very rapidly, permitting quick removal thereof even though there may be a. number of layers of paper one upon another upon the wall being treated. In my tool which I have used for some time for experimental purposes I `find that I can remove wallpaper from a wall in one-tenth of the time that it usually takes.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A devi-ce of the character described comprising a cylinder, a pair of semi-cylindrical plates closely covered with projecting very sharp points, said cylinder being formed of a material to which the platees may be removably secured, means for securing the plates to the cylinder, bearings in the opposite ends of the cylinder, and a forked handle having means for rotatable engagement with the bearings.
2. A device of the character described comprising a solid cylinder, a pair of semi-cylindrical arcuate plates on said cylinder7 means for attaching said plates to said cylinder, bearings in the ends of said cylinder, a handle supporting `member having oppositely extending arms adjacent.
their ends to extend forwardly and parallel with the ends of said cylinder, the terminal ends of said arms being bent inwardly to be received in said bearings, and a handle on said handle supporting member.
EULIS T. HALL.
