CRIB SPRING Filed April 6, 1945 Patented Jan. 13, 1948 UNITED STATES PTENT OFFICE CRIB SPRING Application April 6, 1945, Serial No. 586,841
2 Claims.
This invention relates to crib or bed spring constructions and the like.
Objects of the invention include the provision of an adjustable crib spring which is easily adjusted vertically to different levels in horizontal planes and which is also adjustable by the same means to tilt the spring from the horizontal particularly for the care and feeding of infants.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a View in side elevation illustrating the device;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of one of the hooks, and
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are views illustrating the different relative positions 0f a hook in its different adjusted locations.
In the embodiment of the invention here shown there are disclosed crib or bed posts I!) between which may be secured a member I2 for carrying a crib drop side latch member I4. However, it is to be understood that the present invention is applicable to beds as well as cribs.
Each crib post il! is provided with a slot le although this slot could take the form of a series of slots. Slots I6 open toward each other in pairs and are provided with a series of vertically spaced horizontal pins I8 which extend across the slots.
The spring itself is illustrated at 2li and the purpose of the invention is to provide means for supporting the same in various positions some of which are shown in broken lines in Fig. i. The spring frame is made up as usual of angle irons each of which is provided with a top horizontal Iiange 22 as is customary. At each corner of the spring frame there is mounted a hook generally indicated at 2li on a horizontal pivot pin 26 which extends through the vertical member of the angle iron so that the hooks are mounted to pivot in vertical planes.
Each hook is provided with an upstanding member 28 providing for a bight at 30, these bights being adapted to be set over the pins to suspend the frame. Each hook 24 is also provided with a thumb piece 32'which extends horizontally and laterally inwardly to a position over the horizontal ange 22.
In the use of the device it will be seen that the spring frame is easily supported upon a set of four pins in any position desired, and it being desired to adjust the spring frame, the loop 34 may be grasped to raise an end of the spring frame and the thumb pieces 32 may be depressed to release the hooks from the pins. The thumb pieces 32 also act as stops to prevent the hooks from pivoting too far so that when the hook is placed over a pin it is merely necessary to release the thumb piece to allow the hook to overbalance and become engaged with the pin.
The above described invention provides a Very simple and inexpensively manufactured adjustable spring for the purpose described, The device cannot get out of order and it is extremely simple to operate when it is desired to make an adjustment and at the same time the spring frame is solidly supported and cannot become detached due to the fact that the weight of the spring as well as the weight of the contents tends to maintain the spring frame in adjusted position. The member l2 is not interfered with and may act as a brace for the crib.
Having thus described our invention and the advantages thereof, we do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what we claim is:
1. Adjustable spring comprising a spring frame, a pivoted hook at each corner of the frame, said hook being disposed to pivot on a horizontal axis and extending above the frame, a thumb piece on the hook, said thumb piece extending laterally of the hook parallel to the pivot aXis thereof Aand spaced therefrom and overlying a part of the frame to stop the pivoting action of the hooks at a predetermined position.
2. In combination with posts each having a series of vertically spaced horizontally arranged pins, a spring frame, pivoted hooks at the corners of the frame for selective engagement with the pins, each hook extending above the frame so that the latter is suspended thereon, each hook having an extension for manually pivoting the hooks away from the pins, each said extension being located above the hook pivot and n position to strike the frame during the pivoting action of the hook and acting as a stop to limit the pivoting movement of the hooks away from the pins.
