1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a heel lift attachment plate particularly intended for quickly fastening replaceable lifts to shoe heels.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device whereby a heel lift may be quickly detached from the heel and replaced with a new one without requiring driving of nails or the use of special tools.
Another object of this invention is to provide an attachment device which may be quickly attached to the heel of a shoe to firmly secure thereto the bottom lift in such a manner that it may be easily removed and replaced with a new one when it has become worn.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more clearly understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary elevational side view of a portion of a shoe showing my invention as applied to the heel thereof.
Fig. 2 is a bottom View, in elevation, of the attachment plate.
Fig. 3 is a side View, in central vertical section, of a lift adapted to be attached by said plate.
Fig. 4 is a side View, in central vertical section, showing the lift as secured within the plate.
As shown in the drawings, my invention provides a plate 5 having openings 6 for securing said plate to the heel of a shoe, such as indicated at l.
The said plate is shaped to conform with the shape of a heel and has a marginal flange 8 depending therefrom and extending inwardly to provide a lift receiving recess with inwardly tapered walls. The flange 9, at the front of the heel, is notched as at In to permit the use of a suitable pointed implement for removing the lift from the plate.
As shown in Fig. 3, the lift it may be formed with a surrounding shoulder l2 adapted to extend under the edges of the surrounding walls 8 and 9 of the plate. The said lift may also have an upwardly extending surrounding flange l3, formed by a drawing operation adapted to draw the edges of the lift upwardly to provide said flange so that the lift may be inserted into the recess on the plate 5 and then, by hammering the lift into place, causing the said flange l3 to expand, or flatten, with the recess so that the lift will interlock with the plate 5 as clearly shown in Fig. 4.
From the above it will be clearly seen that my invention provides a novel attaching plate which can be very readily used by inexperienced persons to replace a worn out heel lift with a new one. It is also pointed out that my invention may be easily adapted for interchangeably securing gliders on furniture or the like as well as for interchangeably attaching other flat members to different articles.
I claim:
For a heel, a lift attaching device consisting of a flat plate adapted to be secured to the heel and having a surrounding wall depending therefrom to form a recess in the bottom of said plate with inwardly inclined walls, a lift consisting of a substantially flat resilient member having a surrounding laterally extending flange along the bottom thereof to overlap the edges of said depending wall of the plate, and a surrounding flange along the top of said lift having an outwardly inclined inner wall and a substantially thin edge; the said upwardly extending flange being adapted, upon insertion of said lift into the recess of the plate, to flatten upon the upper surface of the lift and cause expansion thereof to fill the recess in the bottom of the plate and thereby secure the lift to said plate.
