The present invention relates to earrings and particularly to the means for attaching them to the ear of the wearer.

The principal object of this invention is to provide a novel and improved earring attaching means which is easy to manipulate and which securely holds the earring on the ear lobe.

A further object is to provide a fastening means of the character described, of novel and improved construction, which is cheap to manufacture, simple to use and efficient in carrying out the purposes for which it is designed.

Other objects and advantages will become manifest as this disclosure proceeds.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Fig. 1 shows an earring embodying the teachings of this invention, as it is worn Fig. 2 is a side View thereof.

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, of a modified embodiment of this invention.

Fig. 4 is a section taken at line 4-4 in Fig. 3.

Fig. 5 shows the plan view of a cam member employed in both embodiments.

In the drawings, the numeral i3, designates an earring ornament carried on a U-shaped frame indicated generally by l I. Said frame includes a button form [2, on the ornament-bearing arm of the frame in juxtaposition to a substantially spherical shaped cam member i3 which is eccentrically mounted on a vertically disposed axis pin it; the wearers ear lobe position being between said button 12 and the cam i3. A prong or integral pawl [5 extending from the U-shaped member I l, engages the cam member 13, in one of the radially disposed sockets or serrations l6 formed in the body of said cam member, thus acting to hold the cam member in a set position about axis pin l4, and yet, the material of the U-shaped member and prong, l l and 15 respectively, is of such springiness as to permit manual manipulation of the cam member E3. The manner of attachment and detachment from the ear of a wearer is evident.

As a slight modification, the serration engagement means in the embodiment of Fig. 3, is a member ll, which is snugly slidably mounted on and along the non-circular cross-sectioned portion l8 of the frame H. Member H, has extending therefrom a prong [9, adapted to be shifted in and out of engagement with the serrations l 6 of the cam member I3, and another prong or tab 20, for manually accomplishing such sliding movement of IT. Here too, the manner of use needs no further explanation, except to say that when the cam member I3, is turned to pinch the ear lobe 2| between itself and the button l2, the earring is attached. Upon revolving the cam l3 by manual manipulation thereof for about a half turn, the ear lobe becomes released from the cams grip.

This invention is capable of numerous forms and various applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended that the specific description herein be deemed illustrative and not restrictive of the invention disclosed; reference being had to the following claims rather than to the particular embodiment to indicate the scope of this invention,

I claim:

1. In an earring, a frame including an element adapted to be positioned on one side of an car, \a cam provided with serrations on its surface, pivotally mounted on the frame, adapted to lie at the other side of the ear, whereby upon movement of the cam about its axis by hand, the ear is clamped between said element and the cam and a means including a prong extending therefrom, independently moveably mounted on the frame; said prong being adapted when said means is manually shifted towards the cam, to engage said cam in a serration, and when said means is shifted away from the cam, to release the same.

2. An earring as defined in claim 1, wherein the means including the prong extending therefrom, comprises a member snugly slidably mounted on the frame.
