c. J. DAWSON- FAUCET Filed July 12, 1944 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Patented Sept. 9, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in faucets such as are used for hot and cold water.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a faucet which is much more compact and of lighter construction than. faucets now on the market.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a faucet which is more compact and light in construction than most present-day faucets, to the end, that the cost of shipping is considerably reduced.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a faucet which is compact and otherwise constructed with a view toward occupying less space than conventional faucets.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view.
Figure 5 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing in exploded relation one of the valves and its operating head.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes a horizontally disposed nozzle, outwardly tapering and having a downwardly disposed neck portion 6 at its inner end. Within the inner end of the nozzle 5 is located a transverse partition I and forwardly of this is a thickened transverse obstruction 8 having hot and cold water ports 9, l extending therethrough and interrupted by rotary valves ll, l2, respectively, each of which has a by-pass port a therein. The valve elements ll, l2 are each provided with a threaded shaft 13 extending through the corresponding side of the nozzle and being equipped with an internally threaded handle or finger-engageable head l4. The shaft [3 projects through packing gland I5 and is equipped with spring means Hi to offer the desired friction against self-opening or closing.
:The inner end of the nozzle 5 is formed. with a vertical bore extending upwardly from the bottom thereof for receiving a threaded trunnion I! which has the upper leg l8 of an elongated partition l9 extending longitudinally in a, conduit 20, projecting upwardly therein. The upper portion of the trunnion H has a pair of openings l'l' one for each of the hot and cold sides of the partition [9 and as can be seen in Figure 4, a partition 2| extends from the partition 1 to the obstructing formation 8. Numeral 22 denotes a wall plate for the conduit 20, while numeral 23, 24 denote the hot and cold water pipes connected to the conduit 20.
Thus it can be seen, that the hot and cold Water pipes are concealed and only the conduit 20 and the nozzle 5 are visible. Small ornate knobs or winged heads I4 are necessary to operate the valves ll, I2 as distinguished from the more or less grotesque or harsh appearing valve knobs or handles now in general use.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous change in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A swivel hot and cold water faucet having a rigidly fixable, basal member with separate, 1ongitudinal water ways, a pivot post extending at a right angle to said member and having separate ducts from said ways and the post having separate discharge outlets one for each duct, 2. hollow spout having at its lower rear end portion a hub turnably fitting said post and having in its rear end two separate water compartments respectively communicating with said outlets, and separate valves in the spout for discharging water as desired from said compartments.
2. The faucet of claim 1 wherein the post opens at its top to one of said compartments and at its side to the other.
CLYDE J. DAWSON.
