Fig. 1 is a side elevation illustrating the manner of using the improved shampooing apparatus, the apparatus being shown in association with a hospital-type bed and a person 'being illustrated by dotted lines as lying on the bed in position with respect to the apparatus for the performance of the shampooing operation.
Fig, 2 is an enlarged plan view of the shampooing apparatus illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the shampooing apparatus illustrated in Fig. 2.

In the drawings, wherein are shown for purposes of illustration, merely, several embodiments of the invention, A designates generally the sham pooing apparatus illustrated by Figs. 1 to 7, inelusive. The shampooing apparatus A includes a pan i which is provided with a bottom wall la and an upstanding marginal wall Ib, the pan being open at its top as is shown to good advantage in Fig. 4. At the forward portion of the pan l the upstanding marginal wall lb thereof is shaped to provide an approximately horizontal shelf 2 (Fig. 4) which serves a purpose to be hereinafter referred to, this shelf being in a depressed position with respect to. the top of the upstanding marginal wall of the pan and the upper portion of said marginal wall merging into the forward portion of said shelf as is shown in Fig, 2. Additionally, the upstanding marginal wall l b of the pan l is shaped to provide, at one side of the pan, a vertically disposed, elongated opening 3, this opening 3 providing means for water to pass from the pan during a shampooing operation.
The improved shampooing apparatus A includes, also, a head supporting member 4 and a. shoulder supporting member 5. The head supporting member 4 comprises a substantially U- shaped base member 6 (Fig. 7) and an upper member -l which is of substantially inverted U- shaped formation, the top wall la of said upper member 'l being of concave formation so as to provide a comfortable rest for the neck of a person whose hair is being shampooed with the aid of the .apparatus A. The base member t of the head supporting member 4 includes a bottom wall 6a and opposed upstanding side walls llib, while the upper member 'l of said head supporting member 4 is provided with the concave top wall la, previously mentioned herein, and opposed downwardly extended side walls lb, said side walls of the base member 6 and of the upper member l' being arranged in contacting, overlaping relation as is shown in Fig. '7.
It is desirable in the use of the improved shampooing apparatus A that the head supporting member 4 be adjustable as to height. Such adjustment `is provided for by providing the opposed side walls 6b of the base member 6 with pairs of vertical slots 8 which include laterally extended, vertically spaced slot extensions 8' which communicate with the vertical slot portions. Also, the opposed side Walls 'lb of upper member 'l of the head supporting member 4 have rigidly fixed thereto and extended inwardly therefrom pairs of rivets 9, shank portions of the various rivets being extended through corresponding slots 8 of the opposed side walls Bb of the base member 6, and said shank portions of said rivets being seated in the appropriate extensions 8 of the slots 8 to support the upper portion 'l of the head supporting member 4 at the desired elevation,
When it is desired to adjust the head supporting member 4 as to height the upper member 'l thereof is shifted laterally with respect to the base member 5 to move the shank portions of the rivets 3 out of the extensions l of the slots in which they were disposed and into the vertical portions of the slots. The upper portion l of the head supporting member 4 may then be adjusted vertically with respect to the base member Ei to the desired position, the Shanks of the rivets moving through the vertical portions of the slots and when the proper position of adjustment has been attained the upper member is again shifted laterally to seat the shank portions of the rivets in the appropriate slot extensions 8 so as to support said upper member in the position to which it has been adjusted.
The shoulder supporting member 5 of the apparatus A is shaped in plan as is shown in Fig. 2 and said shoulder supporting member is attached to the head supporting member by means of suitable hinges tl, said shoulder supporting member beingV inclined downwardly from its point .of hinged attachment to the head supporting member 4, as is shown in Figs. l, 3, and 4. Also, at its outer end the shoulder supporting member 5 'inclined position.
