J., assg'norto vFutura, Inc., a corporation of NewJersey Application August so, 1945, seriaiNg. clases This invention relates to condiment holders, and more particularly to the type of container in which two different condiments, such as salt and pepper, arecontained in a single holder but in separate compartments, and are adapted to be either independently or successively shaken from the holder.

An object of the invention is to provide a holder of this character, of simple, yet sturdy construction and of attractive appearance which will hold the salt and pepper in separate compartments, and which will be provided with groups of distributing holes so arranged that either the salt or the pepper may be sprinkled, or both salt and pepper can be sprinkled simultaneously.

The invention contemplates the provision of an article of this character composed of two separable parts, arranged when connected, to form a substantially globular chamber in which the salt and pepper are held separated by a central, vertically-disposed partition, said partition being formed on one of the parts and being so shaped as to cooperate with the interior surface of the other part, whereby the maintenance of the` chamber in two compartments occurs regardless of whether the parts of the device are in connected or are in separated relationship.

More particularly, the invention contemplates the provision, in a device of this character, of a globular chamber divided into separable halves, one of said halves constituting a body portion and the other half constituting a cover member; the body portion having a central, vertical partition dividing the same into two compartments, where by pepper may be contained in one compartment and salt in the other; said partition having its edge shaped to conform to the interior surface of the cover member so that when the cover member is placed in position on the body portion, a globular chamberY divided into substantially equal compartments will result.

In the accompanying drawing, wherein an illustrative embodiment of the invention is disclosed:

Fig. 1 is a front view of a condiment holder constructed in accordance with the invention;

Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the holder in open position, or with the cover removed, a part of the cover being broken away; and

Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the body portion of the holder.

The improved condiment holder may be made of any suitable material, such as one of the many plastics now available, or it may be made of wood,

3 and 9 in which the salt and pepper are held in separated relation. The base or body portion 2 of the holder is provided with the stem 3 having a bottom or base 4 on which the holder may be rested upon a table or other supporting surface.

The base or body portion l is provided with an integrally formed, vertically-disposed partition 'I which rises above the top of the base or body portion as clearly seen in Fig. 3. The cover member 2 is formed with an internally threaded portion 5 received on the threaded part l of the base member l to thereby detachably secure the cover member to the base or body portion. Extending through the cover member are the two groups of perforations l0 and Il, these groups being located diametrically opposite and arranged, when the cover is threaded home on the base I, to lie on opposite sides of the vertical partition 1.

The cooperating threads 5 and 6 on the cover member 2 and base member l, respectively, are so arranged that when the cover member is threaded home, it will be disposed as shown in Fig. 2. That is to say, one group of perforations, or those indicated at l0, will be located at one side of the partition 1, and the other group, or those indicated at Il, will be located at the opposite side of the partition.

The upper edge of the partition 'i is arcuately curved, as indicated at l 2, so that this edge of the partition conforms to the interior face I3 of the cover member 2. Thus, when the cover member is iitted in place, the interior of the globular body thus provided is divided into the two separate

8 and 9 and into which the salt and pepper are respectively placed. Each one of the chambers has its group of outlet openings |0 and Il. To sprinkle one condiment merely requires holding the device with the proper group of ejection openings I0 or il directed toward the food to be sprinkled. Both condiments may be ejected simultaneously by holding the device with both groups of openings I0 and Il directed downwardly toward the food. The arrangement of the upstanding dividing partition l, situated between the two chambers l8 and 9 in the holder, is such that it not only serves to separate the holder into two parts, but also serves, when the holder is opened for lling, to act as a baffle and to facilitate the filling of the two compartments, preventing mixing of the contents intended for one compartment with that of the other.

The device may be made in various ornamental forms, that shown being an example and being not intended to limit the invention, since the same may be made in many other Ways as comprehended by the scope of the claims appended hereto. V f

What I claim is: f

1. A holder for salt and pepper having a substantially globular body portion composed of twoV halves threadably united, one of said halves being provided with a plurality of dispensing openings, the other half having an integrally formed xed partition dividing it into two separate chambers, the other half being also similarly divided by said partition when the latter half is attached to the rst half.

2. A holder for salt and pepper having a substantially globular body composed of two hemispherical halves threadedly united on a substan- 4 upon which it is supported in an elevated position, said half being also provided with an integrally forced disk-like fixed partition dividing it into two separate chambers, the other half beingl also similarly divided by said partition when threadably attached to the rst half.
