Application filed Mareh'l i, 1881.
To all whom t't may concern Be it known that I, H. G. FILsoN, a citizen of the United States, resident at New (lumberland, in the county of Hancock and State ot' WestVirginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Eaves- Trough Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a representation of a side view. Fig. 2 is a cross-section, and Fig. 3 is a detail view.
This invention relates to adjustable eavestrough boxes; and it consistsin the improved features of construction and combination hereinafterfully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the annexed drawings, Ais a trough, angular in cross-section, consisting of bottom B and sides 0 0.
Attached transversely to the bottom, near the ends, are the rockers D, between the feet (I of which are secured the right-angled bases of two standards, E E, the base 0 of the former being rigidly secured, and the base 0 of the latter slotted at c and held adj ustably by a pin or screw, F. These standards pass in opposite directions, and their uprights 0 come up on the outside of and hold the sides 0 C, said uprights having the slots 0*.
g g are recesses in the outside of sides 0 0 just where the uprights 0 come, and in these are secured the plates Gr G, in which latter are formed the threaded recesses g 9, adapted to receive the screws H H, passing through the (N0 model.)
slots 0, by which the sides are adjustable within the standards or uprights.
On the inside of the side 0, near its top, is made the longitudinal angular groove I. Perpendicular in the side 0 are formed the circular seats is passing therethrough. In these seats are placed the shanks l of catches L, whose heads I rest upon the top of said side. Within these seats are placed spiral or other springs K, bearing between a nut at the end of shanks l and a shoulder at top of seats 7c. The heads I have the projections l and knobs F.
The sides of the eaves-trough box are adjusted vertically and horizontally to suit the size oftrough to be manipulated, and one end of one trough-section is placed in with its head in groove I and the projections l are turned over its other edge, whereby it is held tightly in place. Solderis applied and the other section secured thereto.
1. Abox for forming eaves-troughs, having sides adjustable vertically and horizontally, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. An eaves-trough box having standards adjustably connected to its bottom and sides adjustably connected to the standards, as and for the purposes set forth.
3. In an eaves-trough box the combination, with the adjustable side 0, having the groove I in its inner face, of the adjustable side G, having seats it, catches L, having heads l, projections l and the operating-spring K, sub stantial] y as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
HIRAM G. FILSON.
