Description

June 17, 1947,. E. J. PLAUD -KEY CASE Filed Feb. 9, 1945 Inventor Eugen? 4/ 1 /0 o v I M am Patented June 17, 1947 UNITED STATES PATNT OFFICE KEY CASE Eugene J. Plaud, New Bedford, Mass. Application February 9, 1945, Serial No. 577,099
4 Claims.
This invention relates to a rigid case within which keys may be enclosed and an object of the invention is to provide such a, case from which the keys may readily be projected for use, but still be secured thereto.
Another object of the invention is to provide a small convenient case for completely enclosing keys, but from which the keys may be easily and quickly projected for use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pair of similarly shaped case members pivotally connected and to the pivot of which keys are adapted to be held.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of my key case shown in position for use of a key held thereby,
Figure 2 is a similar view shown in changed position,
Figure 3 is a detail elevation of one member of the case,
Figure 4 is an end view thereof.
Figure 5 is another end view thereof,
Figure 6 is an elevational view of the member of Figure 5,
Figure '7 is an end view of Figure 6, and
Figure 8 is a detail of a pair of pivot members.
In the drawings illustrating my invention and in the following specification thereof, like reference characters refer to like parts and I0, indicates a key case which comprises a pair of housing members H and I2, the former consisting of ovate-oblong walls l3 and it, connected by a side wall [5, terminating in an end wall l6, at its small end H, the large end l8, and side l9, being open. Pivotally and slidably mounted within member H, is the similarly shaped housing [2, the walls 20 and 2i, of which are connected by the side wall 22, which continues around the large end 23, as at 24. Said walls 2| and 22, have aligning elongated bayonet slots 25. A tubular internally screw threaded pivot member 26, projects through aligning bores 26, in the large end 18, of the walls I3 and I4, and also the slot 25, of member l2, and is secured in place by a screw 21, both members 26 and 21, having enlarged heads 28 and 29, respectively. An automobile or other key or keys 3!], are also held by the member 26. After the use of an extended key 30, has been completed the member I2, is allowed to drop forward until the right-angular end 3|, reaches the pivot 26, at which point member I2, will swing around upon the pivot and slide in between walls l3 and Hi. There is sufiicient frictional engagement between the walls of members H and 12, to hold member l2 in its closed position and in order to open the device,
a finger nail clip 32, extension of wall 22, is provided and which, when in closed position, rests upon the end 33, of wall it, of the outer casing l i.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. A key case comprising a pair of pivotally connected housings, one slidable within the other, means for holding keys in the inner housing, said housings being ovate-oblong and slidably connected by said means, the walls of one of the housings having elongated bayonet slots through which a pivot member projects permitting said sliding movement, means whereby the housings may be held closed one upon the other, and an extension of one of the walls of one of the housings whereby the case may be opened.
2. A key case comprising a pair of pivotally con nected housings, one slidable within the other, means for holding keys in the inner housing, said housings being ovate-oblong and slidably connected by said means, the walls of one of the housings having elongated bayonet slots through which a pivot member projects permittingsaid sliding movement, and means whereby the housings may be held closed one upon the other.
3. A key case comprising a pair of pivotally connected housings, one slidable within the other, means for holding keys in the inner housing, said housings being ovate-oblong and slidably connected by said means, and the walls of one of the housings having elongated bayonet slots through which a pivot member projects permitting said sliding movement.
4. A key case comprising a pair of pivotally connected housings, one slidable longitudinally within the other, means for holding keys in the inner housing, said housings each including side walls which cooperate to completely close the case.
EUGENE J. PLAUD.
