V UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
SAMUEL RAWSON, OF PEORIA, ILLINOIS.
WAGON-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 242,155, dated May 31, 1881.
Application filed April 20, 1881.
. Illinois, have invented an Improved Wagon- Jack; and I do-hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which like letters of reference refer to like parts, and in which- Figure 1 represents side elevation, and Fig. 2 end elevation, of two wagon -jacks coupled together.
The lever A, pivoted at P, terminates atone end in the hand-piece B and at the other end in the concave axle-holder O. This leverA is supported by the double standard E, and its other end, B, kept from flying up from the weight of the wagon on the end 0 by means of the pin P, placed in one of the holes S of the upright standard D,between the two parts of which the lever A moves. The upright D is fastened to the base F by the bolt L, and is kept in place by the pin or bolt P and the brace G. By removing the pin or bolt I? the upright D can be folded down against the base F. In the same way the upright E is secured to the base F by the bolt L, and held up by the brace G and pin or bolt P. To make this upright E perpendicular in case the base F rests on sloping ground, the pin P can be removed, the upright E moved to a correct position, and the pin P put back through the new hole S in the brace G. By removing the pin 1? the upright E can also be folded down against the base F.
To adapt this wagonjack to wagons of different heights, the pin P can be removed, the lever A changed to the suitable height, and the pin P put in at the new hole S of the upright E. The lever A can be pivoted at dif- (No model.)
ferent holes, S in it, when desired to adapt it to wagons of greater or less Weight.
If it is wished to lift up both wheels at one end of a wagon at the same time, two wagonjacks are fastened together by means of the notched bar H and bolts It B.
This wagon-jack can also be used for a carpenters bench and vise-fora bench by pinning the lever A up horizontal, or for vise by means of the concave curve 0. The handle B can be raised, a piece of Wood placed between the upright Eand the concave part 0 of the lever, the handle B pressed down till the piece of wood is firmly held, and the pin P put in the proper hole S to hold it.
What I claim as my invention, and for which I desire Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
1. In wagon-jacks, the lever A, with handle B, concave axle-holder (l, concave face U, and holes S in combination with the upright E, with its holes S, pin P, base F, bolt L, brace G, with holes S pin or bolt P also upright D, with holes S, pin P, brace G, with holes S, pin or bolt P and bolt L, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In wagon-jacks, the lever A, upright E, brace G, and base F, in combination with the notched connecting-bar H and bolts R R, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. In wagon'jacks, thelever A, provided with holes S in combination with upright E, provided with holes S, the pin P, and base F, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing invention I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of April, 1881.
SAMUEL R-AWSON.
