My present invention, in its broad aspect, has reference to improvements in lights for boats. My present light is designed to supply ample light for all deck purposes, such as handling of the anchor and gear and for recreational purposes on the forward deck and cabin, and the like, and
.in addition, such white light when projected aft is in accordance with certain existing regulations and requirements. Where the boat is of the sailing or auxiliary type, the light may be adjusted to illuminate the sails so that where the vessel is traversing crowded traffic lanes and has 10W running lights which are close to the water, there will be no danger of running the boat down due to failure to discern the running lights by the Watch officer of some larger craft.
In attaining the above and other objects and advantages, I provide an adjustable light in a water-tight casing having an arcuate lens protected by a grid and a door to give access to the interior of the casing. The casing is designed to be attached to a deck over the light and to throw rays at various angles to the vertical by a simple adjustment of the light through a combined horizontal adjusting rod and support. All corners of the casing are rounded off and bev eled and. the make-up and design of the casing is attractive and pleasing in appearance.
Other and equally important objects and 'advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following description and drawings, and it is pointed out that changes in form, size, shape, materials, and construction and arrangement of parts are permissible and within the purview of my broad inventive concept and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings, wherein I have illustrated a preferred form of my invention:

In the drawings, wherein like characters of reference are used to designate like or similar parts:
The numeral 1 designates a boat deck, or the like, through which an insulator 2 projects with electric connections 3 leading to a light including a suitable bulb and reflector 4. The reflector, as here shown, is of the spherical type.
Supporting the reflector l and light is a horizontal rod 5 which is journalled in bearings 6 in the sides of a casing l. The rod has a knob 8 and functions both as a support and an adjusting medium for the reflector d and light. The light is adjustable on a horizontal axis to throw beams at any angle from a substantially hori- 2 Claims. (01. 240-71) zontal to an angle approaching the vertical so that the sails of a boat, or the like, may be properly illuminated as well as the deck.
Attached to the deck by brackets 9 is the waterproof casing (before referred to) which surrounds and protects the light and has an upwardly and backwardly and arcuately curved front It), and an upwardly and forwardly inclined back H. The edges and corners of the back, front, top l2 and all other parts are curved and beveled as at l3.
At the back is a door M which is hinged at I5 and has a knob l6 and fits in a countersunk flanged frame I! to lie flush with the surface. The front has a countersunk flanged frame 18 supporting an arcuate lens l9. Spaced, parallel, arcuate grid rods 20 are mounted in upper and lower supports 2| to protect the lens l9.
From the foregoing, it is believed that the operation and advantages of myinvention will be apparent, but it is again emphasized that interpretation of the scope of my invention should only be conclusive when made in the light of the subj oined claims.
I claim:
1. A boat light, comprisin a lamp and reflector adjustable on a horizontal axis to cast beams at any angle from substantially horizontal to an angle approaching the vertical, a waterproof casing enclosing the lamp and reflector and adapted to rest on a flat surface, a horizontal rod journalled in the side of the casing and adjustably supporting the lamp and reflector, the back of the casing being upwardly and forwardly inclined, the front of the casing being arcuately curved upwardly and backwardly, an arcuate lens in the front extending throughout the angle of adjustment of the light beam, and a door in the back, upper and lower supports extending across the front below and above the arcuate lens, and arcuate grid rods extending between the supports to protect the lens.

A boat light, comprising a lamp and reflec tor adjustable on a horizontal axis to cast beams at any angle from substantially horizontal to an angle approaching the vertical, a waterproof casing enclosing the lamp and reflector and adapted to rest on a flat surface, a horizontal rod journalled in the side of the casing and adjustably supporting the lamp and reflector, the back of the casing being upwardly and forwardly inclined, the front of the casing being arcuately curved upwardly and backwardly, an arcuate lens in the front extending throughout the angle of adjustment of the light beam, and a door in the REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
