Description

May 20, 1947. J. E. Role PICKER-STICK DRI VING MECHANISM FOR LOOMS Filed 'Nm r. 8, 1944 a wue/MM J- Enfe dacf uaEuig flbkwmqs Patented May 20, 1947 UNITED PICKER-STICK DRIVING MECHANISM FOR, LOOMS Juan Enfedaque Roig, Barcelona, Spain Application November 8, 1944, Serial No. 562,467 In Spain January 11, 1944 2 Claims.
This invention relates to driving mechanisms of the picker-sticks used in looms to cause the moving or impelling of the shuttle, and the object of the invention is to provide a picker-sticks driving mechanism for looms of improved construction.
One of the great advantages of the pickersticks driving mechanism for looms, improved in accordance with this invention, is that it permits to obtain the same perfect results with a lesser roughness of the movements, which results not only in deadening the noise produced by the loom, but also in the longer life of the different operating parts.
The improved picker-sticks driving mechanism for looms consists of an eccentric or cam which operates upon a roller pivoted to a longitudinally movable rack, which is geared to a toothed segment fixed to the vertical picker-stick carrying shaft, the said rack being subjected to the action of a tension spring which operates oppositely to the action of the said eccentric or cam causing the movement.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect by those skilled in the art, one construction therewith is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a plan view of the essential parts of the improved picker-sticks driving mechanism for looms, and, Fig. 2. is a front view corresponding to Fig. l, but showing also the picker-stick.
Referring to the drawings, I designates the eccentric or cam of the improved mechanism, mounted on a corresponding shaft and drivenin the usual manner in looms, and which presents an adequate shape to push the roller 2 pivoted to a stay 3 of the bar [which is fitted with a rack 5. The said bar 4 is set on brackets 6 and I, so that it can slide longitudinally and it is subjected to the action of a tension spring 8. The rack is geared with the teeth of a segment 9, fixed to the vertical shaft I ll which carries the picker-stick ll fastened to its upper end.
The operation of this mechanism cannot be easier: The eccentric or cam I moves the roller 2 which in turn moves the rack 5 against the action of the tension spring 8. The rack 5 causes 2 the segment 9, and, consequently, the segmentcarrying shaft IE] to turn, and the latter in turn causes the working of the picker-stick II.
It will be understood that the action of this improved driving mechanism upon the pickerstick is a ver safe and efficient one and that the movements of all parts are obtained with smoothness and Without necessity of exerting any hard strain on them.
As it is natural, the details of construction,-
shapes, dimensions and materials of the mechanism improved in accordance with the present invention may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with an oscillatory shaft and a picker stick carried thereby of means for driving the shaft including a segmental gear carried by the shaft, a slidably mounted rack bar engageable with the segmental gear, a roller mounted on the inner face of the rack bar, a rotatable cam engageable with the roller for moving the rack bar in one direction and a spring connected to the inner end of the rack bar and tensioned to move the rack bar in a reverse direction.
2. Driving mechanism for the oscillatory picker sticks for looms including a segmental gear carried by the picker sticks supporting shaft, a rack bar slidably mounted transversely of the axis of the shaft and engageable with the segmental gear, a roller mounted on the inner face of the rack bar, a rotatable cam engageable with the roller for moving the rack bar in one direction and a spring connected to the rack bar and tensioned to move the rack bar in a reverse direction.
