The subject matter of this invention is concerned with a functionally and structurally improved brassiere and the object of the invention.

is realized in the provision of spaced pockets for desirably and removably housing spaced pads having means for distending the pockets to permit the latter to function without injury to the the wearer of the brassiere. Another object resides in the provision of novel means to preclude bodily slippage of the pad members relative to the pad sustaining pockets. A further object is to prevent accidental removal of the. pads from the pad sustaining pockets. Another object is directed to ease of assembly and substitution of one pad by another for purposes of cleanliness. Further objects, advantages and features of the invention will appear from the following detailed tional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.

Figs. 4-6 illustrate enlarged sectional views of parts of one of the pads, however, before assembly.

Fig. 7 is an enlarged detailed view of Fig. 2, and

Fig. 8 is a front view of one of the pads, show on a smaller scale.

In the drawings, the brassiere is generally denoted B and embodies the support S having a pair of outwardly curved pockets P each characterized by a front wall and the rear lining or wall it suitably stitched together except as at upper and lower portions or edges l4 and I5.

By this arrangement suitable pads broadly designated 16 may be conveniently inserted or removed from the pockets and each pad includes appropriately secured inner and outer members or walls I] and i8 defining a curved or crescent shaped housing H in which is nested or telescoped a substantially cone shaped rubber member or diaphragm I9 and a protecting cone shaped and relatively soft cotton member or padding 20.

The spaced walls I-1 and I8 of a pad are stitched together with the rim 2i of the soft protecting member 20 along the line 22 although prior to such securing the rubber diaphragm l9 or cap is positioned on the curved apex of the inner wall [1, the cap serving as a relatively soft body to sustain the desired curved and distended shape of its respective pad.

Each pad is provided at its upper end with a loop or complementary fastening member 24 adapted to be removably projected through an opening 25 defined by the upper edges M of the inner lining II and the upper portions of the outer lining or wall 10 for the purpose of being threaded over a button or complementary fastening member 26 secured to a freely swinging portion 21 of a shoulder strap 28, the loose portion 21 being secured by a line of stitching 29 on the border portion 30 attached to the front wall l0.

Secured to the lower portion of a pad is a fixed button or complementary fastening member 32 removably cooperating with a loop or companion complementary fastening member 33 having its legs appropriately fastened to the lower margins of the outer pocket wall l0.

As illustrated each pad is provided with a later ally extending and thinned out tapered portion 35 to provide less bulk laterally of the breasts and to readily conform to the body of the wearer.

In the matter of assembly, access may be readily had to the openings 36 defined by the lower separable portions of the outer and inner pocket walls in and I I. Through these openings or gaps 36 the loop carrying portions of the pads are first inserted. Thereafter the pads are appropriately slidably positioned in the pockets and removably held therein by the cooperating loops 24 interlocking with the buttons 28 and by the lower buttons 32 removably or disconnectably interlocking with the loops 33. p

The inner and outer walls I I and 18 of the pads are of a suitable fabric. The resilient reinforcing diaphragm l9 may be of a suitable sponge rubber for urging the relatively soft intervening padding against the outer cone shaped wall It.

Collapse of the pad is prevented by the cone shaped diaphragm members 19. Consequently the pads are maintained in their required distended form fitting contour.

By reason of the interlocking connections between the loops and buttons the pads are prevented from bodily shifting relative to the sustaining pockets. Moreover such connections permit the pads to be removed from the pockets for purposes of replacement or cleaning. Because of the normal distention of the pads, the brassire is aptly adapted for flat chested persons and where accentuation is desired two or more pads may be conveniently telescoped in each of the pockets as is well understood.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof inherent therein.

3 Iclaim: 1. In a brassire, a supporting body having spaced pockets comprising front and rear partly separable. walls defining spaced lower gaps, form fitting normally distended 'pads removably inserted between said walls through said lower gaps for distending said front walls; each of said pads having inner and outer substantially cone shaped members, a padding interposed between said I members, and a substantially cone shaped resilient diaphragm nested between said members and against said padding, said walls defining spaced upper openings, flaps secured to the upper portion of said front walls and removably projectible into said openings, buttons carried by said flaps, loops at the upper parts of said pads for removably interlocking with said buttons, loop means secured to the lower portions of said front walls and removably projectible in said gaps, and

button means secured to lower portions of said 20 pads for removably interlocking with said loop means.

2. In a brassiere, a supporting body having spaced pockets comprising front and rear partly separable walls defining spaced and accessible lower gaps, form fitting normally distended pads removably insertedtbetween said walls through said lower gaps for distending said front walls; each of said pads having inner and outer substantially cone shaped members, a padding intons, loop means secured to said lower portion of said front walls adjacent said gaps and removably -projectible in said openings, and button means secured to lower portions of said pads for removably interlocking with said loop means.
