INFANTS SLEEPING COVER Filed June 4, 1945 I 3n ventor Floris/M0623 ttornegs Patented May 6, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE INFANTS SLEEPING COVER Floris W. Day, Massillon, Ohio Application June 4, 1945, Serial No. 597,393
Claims.
The invention relates to a sleeping cover for use in connection with infants cribs, beds or the like and more particularly to a combined cover and sleeping garment.
It is an object of the invention to provide a sleeping cover which allows for freedom of movement of the infant while lying in a crib or the like and at'the same time provides a protective covering for the infant.
Another object is to provide a cover of this character in the form of a blanket or the like having an opening to receive the lower portion of the infants body and a detachable garment in the form of a jacket to be worn by the infant, with means for detachably connecting the garment to the cover.
A further object is to provide a cover of this character having a T-shape opening therein with a hookless fastener for closing the upright portion thereof and tie strings at the transverse portion of the opening for connecting to the lower portion of the detachable jacket.
The above objects together with others which will be apparent from the drawing and following description, or which may be later referred to, may be attained by constructing the improved sleeping cover in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which;
Figure l is a perspective view of a babys crib showing the manner in which the improved sleeping cover is used therein;
Fig. 2 a plan view of the cover with the detachable garment removed therefrom;
Fig. 3 a front elevation of the garment detached from the cover; and
Fig. 4 a rear elevation of the garment.
In Fig. 1 is illustrated a crib of conventional design having the head and foot boards lo and i l respectively and one side member l2, the other side member being removed for the purpose of illustration.
The cover, indicated generally at E3, may be in the form of a blanket, robe or the like of any suitable fabric material, preferably generally rectangular in shape so .as to fit upon the mattress of the crib or bed in the same manner as the ordinary blanket or cover.
Tie strings H! are connected to the upper surface of the cover is, preferably at points spaced from the side edges thereof, for tying around the spindles l5 cf the side members iii of the crib so as to secure the cover and prevent the same from being accidentally displaced by the movement of the infant when sleeping in the crib. This permits the edge portions of the cover l3:
2 to be tucked in around'the mattress as is customary with covers of this kind.
A T-shape slit or opening is formed-in the cover l3 comprising the upright portion [6 adapted to be closed as by a hookless fastener H and the transverse portion l8, tie strings l9 being connected to the top surface of the cover 13 adjacent to each side of said transverse slitl8.
The jacket 20, as shown in Fig. 3, is preferably provided with short sleeves 2| and with the front opening 22 adapted to be closed by a hookless fastener 23. This jacket is provided around the waist portion at the front, sides and back with a plurality of tie strings 24 adapted to be tied to the strings I9 on each side of the transverse slit 18 in the cover 13 when the device is in use.
In using the device the sack or jacket 20 is put on the baby and the hookless fastener I1 is opened so that the baby can be slipped into the T-shape opening in the cover l3. The tie strings 24 at the front, back and sides of the jacket are tied to the tie strings 19 at both sides and ends of the transverse portion l8 of the T-shape opening and the hookless fastener I1 is closed.
The baby is thus fastened securely in the crib, as shown in Fig. l, and while this device keeps the baby well covered and confined to the crib, it does not restrain his normal movements as he can sleep in any position and will remain comfortable with no danger of strangling or smothering.
The cover 13 may be made of any suitable material such as flannel or wool for winter, while cotton or other light weight material may be used in summer.
I claim:
An infants sleeping cover comprising a substantially rectangular cover having a T-shape opening therein adapted to receive the legs and lower portion of an infants body beneath the cover, means for closing the upright portion of the T-shape opening, a jacket located above the cover and adapted to be worn upon the arms and. upper portion of the body of the infant, and cooperating fastening means on the front and back of the jacket and on each side of the transverse portion of the T-shape opening for detachably connecting the jacket to the cover.
2. An infants sleeping cover comprising a substantially rectangular cover having an opening therein adapted to receive the legs and lower portion of an infants body beneath the cover, a jacket located above the cover and adapted to receive the arms and upper portion of the infants body, and cooperating fastening means on the front and back of the jacket and on each side of said opening for detachably connecting the jacket to the cover.
3. An infants sleeping cover comprisinga substantially rectangular cover having a T-shape opening therein adapted to receive the lower portion of an infants body beneath the cover, fastening means near the side edges of the. rectangular cover for detachably connecting the cover to the side members of a crib, means for closing the upright portion of the T-shape opening a jacket located above the cover and adapted to be worn upon the arms and upper portion; ofthe; body of the infant, and cooperating,- fastening means on the front and back of the jacket" and on each side of the transverse portion. of the:
T-shape opening for detachably connecting the jacket to the cover.
4. An infant's sleeping cover comprising a substantially rectangular cover having an opening therein adapted to receive the less and lower portion of an infants body' beneath the cover, fastening means;v near the side edges of thearecrtangular cover for detachably connecting.- the cover to. the side members of a crib, a jacket located above the: cover and adapted; to receive the; arms and upper: portion. of the infant's body, and cooperating'iasteningg means on: the front and back of. the jacket.- and on each side of said 4 opening for detachably connecting the Jacket to the cover.
5. An infant's sleeping cover comprising a substantially rectangular cover having a T-shape opening therein adapted to receive the legs and lower portion of an infant's body beneath the cover, a hookless fastener for closing the upright portion of the T-shape opening, a jacket located above the cover and adapted to be worn upon the arms and upper portion of the, body of the infant, and cooperating fastening means on the front and back of the jacket and on each side of the transverse portion of the T-shape opening for detachably connecting the jacket to the cover.
