4 This invention relates to a'bridle and more p tiulaflyfidihe cheek strap'sof'iil 'bridlef it being dh'f dliject'of the invention: ti) -provide abfidle with lieek' straps providedwltfibuckles'soforined and so mounted that when the cheek straps are in place, straps may be very easily engaged through the buckles and the cheek straps held in place without being subjected to wear which would be liable to weaken them.
Another object of the invention is to provide the cheek straps with buckles through which looped portions of the cheek straps pass, inner end bars of the buckle about which the loops engage being provided with sleeves for eliminating frictional wear upon the loops and the bills for the buckles being mounted at their outer ends and extending toward inner ends of the buckles for passing through openings in straps which are passed through the buckles. Due to this arrangernent, the buckles are carried by upper and lower loops of the cheek straps instead of by other portions of the bridle and pull exerted upon the bills will tend to hold them close against the buckles and prevent them from accidentally moving to a releasing position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bridle with cheek straps having inner and outer portions between which fillers carrying bllnkers are mounted, the fillers terminating in spaced relatlon to loop-forming folds of the strips or straps from which the cheek straps are formed, and thus providing the cheek straps with loops which engage through inner ends of the buckle and so mount them that they cannot become detached from the cheek straps.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bridle with cheek straps having buckles so applied to them that portions of the cheek straps which engage through the buckle need not be formed with openings to receive bills of the buckles.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a perspective view howing a bridle having cheek straps of the improved onstruction in use.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken longitudinally through a check strap of the improved construction.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view showing the up per buckle and the manner in which it is mounted.
The bridle of which the improved cheek straps form portions has a head baud Ii having it end portions secured across a strap which form the brow-band 2 and the throat latch or strap 3,
2 The head band has'its'i'nd portions a ei rtentling downwardly or forwardl from the str'a foragin figiifgsw isand rrianf' 'hroat stratus engagent'vtfihbiiiikie's'WWt ep emeris More cheek straps 5.
The cheek straps G are of duplicate construction and each is formed from a. strip of leather or other suitable material which has its upper portion folded outwardly and downwardly to provide inner and outer portions 1 and 8 joined by a loop 9 which passes through the upper buckle. The lower end portion of the outer portion 8 is folded inwardly and upwardly to form a lower loop Ill and this upwardly turned end of the outer portion is firmly secured by stitches H which pass through the inner and outer portions and also through a filler l2. The filler i2 is of double thickness and is firmly held in place between the inner and outer portions 1 and 8 and has its ends spaced from the folds forming the loops 9 and I0. It will thus be seen that the upper buckle 5 cannot become detached from the loop 9 which passes through it, and also that the lower buckle l3 cannot become detached from the lower loop II) which passes through it. The lower portion of the strip from which each cheek strap is formed is of sufficient length to allow it to be passed through a ring ll of a bit l5 and then folded outwardly and upwardly to provide a portion l6 which passes through the lower buckle l3. The two buckles are of duplicate construction and each is Provided with a sleeve H which fits loosely about the cross-bar at the inner end of the buckle. The loops 9 and I0 engage about the sleeve H and from an inspection of Figure 2, it will be readily seen that the sleeve will prevent frictional wear upon the loops which would be liable to weaken them. The 'bill It of each buckle is pivotally mounted about the crossbar at the outer end of the buckle and when the straps 4 and I6 are passed through the buckle and the bills passed through the openings 4' and I6, they will extend inwardly through the straps and since the extremities of the straps are passed through rings l9 and 20 carried by the upper and lower loops. the bills will be held against outward swinging movement and cannot swing outwardly to a position in which they can slip outwardly through the openings 4 and IS. The pull exerted upon these straps will be applied to the bills close to their eyes l8 through which the outer end bars of the buckles pass and this will also urge the bills inwardly toward the outer portions 8 of the cheek straps. In view of the fact that the bills are carried by cross-bars at outer ends of the buckles, it is not necessary to form slots in the loops 9 and Ill to accommodate the bills. Therefore, the loops are not weakened, and in addition, it is only necessary to apply one sleeve about each buckle instead of applying two sleeves, one at each side of the bill, and this will reduce the cost of manufacture. The fillers l2 may carry blinkers 2| or the blinkers may be omitted according to the type of bridle desired. l
It is thought that persons skilled in the-sit l to which the invention relates will be able to ob tain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a. more lengthy descriptionisregardedasunnecessary. j 1
Minor changes in the shape, size and, rangement of detailscoming within the fiel "of in vention claimed may be resorted to inzactual practice if desired.
Having thus described, the clairnedisw y l In a bridle, cheelc straps eachchmprising-a strip having its upper portion folded outwardly invention, what is 4 and downwardly to form inner and outer portions and having the lower end of its portions folded inwardly and upwardly and secured to said inner portion, a filler between the inner and outer portions and having its ends spaced from ends of the said outer portion, the folds at ends of the said outer portion forming upper and lower loops for the cheek strap, buckles throu h which said loo s hfiving'loose sleevesabout'thar inner ends about which the loops engage, and bills for said buckles.
