Patented Feb. 11, 1947 UNITED STATES ATENT FFICE LOCK STRUCTURE Emilio Straessli, Sao Paulo, Brazil application July 30, ,1943, Serial No. 496,782 In Brazil August 27, 1942 2 Claims. 1
This invention refers to a lock structure for the bolting and unbolting of safes, strong-rooms and similar installations, and it has for its object to provide improved means for controlling the operation of such installations.
The apparatus comprises a system of exible cables, embedded in the Walls of the safe or similar installation and actuated by a control device whereby the locking bolts may be rendered operative or inoperative as desired.
In the annexed drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan View of the device, operated directly.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of another form of the device, operated from a distant point.
Figs. 4 and 5 schematically show the two forms of the device applied to use.
The device, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a hand Wheel I, the shaft of which is secured to a gear wheel 2 meshing with a toothed plate 3 movable within two guides 4. The toothed plate 3 is fixed to a cross head 5, at right angle thereto and supporting one or several flexible cables 6. It is clear that the movement of the hand wheel I produces the sliding of the plate 3 and cables 6 and this motion is utilized for actuating the locks or bolts of the safe.
The cables 6 are guided by their sliding-guides l. The sliding guides are fixed to a rigid support 8 and thus the cables 6 can be moved in order to actuate the locks.
The device may be operated from a distant point, as shown in Fig. 3 and for that purpose the gear wheel 2 is moved by a drum 9 embedded in the safe, and operated from a distant point by means of another cable Ill fixed to a steel band II wound upon the drum 9.
Figure 4 shows the device mounted in the rear or in a side Wall of the safe, and operated from a distant point, through cable IEI. The cables E are provided at their ends with suitable locks I2 which lock and open the safe, under control of the movement of the cables 6.
Figure 5 shows a similar installation, in which the locks are moved directly by the hand wheel I.
What I claim is:
1. In combination, a plurality of locking members, a rotatable control member, a drum carried by the rotatable member, a steel band on said drum, a flexible operating member secured to said band, a bar movable longitudinally by said control member, a cross head carried by said bar, and a plurality of flexible actuating memberssecured to said head and to said locking members for actuating the latter in response to rotation of said control member.
2. An arrangement as claimed in claim 1 characterized by the provision of spaced guides for said bar and said flexible members arranged to limit movement of said cross head. y
