Definitions
- This invention relates to hair curlers and is more particularly concerned with the type of hair curler in which a tubular body portion having a thin wall section is slotted to form diametrically opposed fingers to receive a lock of hair to be curled.
- This invention further contemplates the provision of a hair curler having a thin Walled tubular body portion to receive a bobby pin for retaining a curl in position thereon, after which the curler may bedisplaced axially from the curl which will then be secured by means of the bobby pin.
- Fig. 1 is a side elevational view showing a hair curler embodying features of this invention.
- Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of same.
- Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
- Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional View taken along the line 4--4 of Fig. 2.
- the hair curler is shown as comprising a tubular body portion 6 formed with a relatively thin wall section and having a pair of diametrically opposed slots 'I extending inwardly from one end thereof to provide a pair of ngers 8 and 9.
- the other end of the body portion is provided with a frusto-conical knob II) which is preferably knurled to provide a roughened linger gripping portion for rotating the curler.
- a rib I I is formed within the tubular body portion 6 and is preferably disposed at right angles to the slots I.
- the rib II is joined to the nger 9 and provided with a hair clamping edge I2 disposed adjacent the inner Wall of the finger 8 and dening therewith an inwardly converging recess I3.
- the outer ends of the fingers 8 and 9 are rounded at I4 and I5, respectively, to facilitate the insertion of hair into the slots 1.
- This type of hair curler is preferably formed of thermoplastic material to permit flexing movement of the finger 8 toward the edge I2 of the rib I6 for the purpose of locking the hair to be curled therebetween.
- the end of the hair to be curled is inserted between the ngers 8 and 9 for locking engagement in the recess I3 provided between the edge I2 of the rib I6 and the inner wall of the nger 8.
- the hair is clamped between the edge I2 of the rib and the inner wall of the nger 8.
- the pressure may be removed from the ends of lingers 8 and 9 to permit same to assume their normal positions, and the curling operation then continued by merely turning the knob IIJ.
- a bobby pin is opened to engage the inner wall of one of the ngers and the outside of the curl, after which the curler is withdrawn axially from the curl which is held securely by the bobby pin mounted thereon.
- a hair curler formed of thermoplastic material comprising a tubular body having a thin wall section, said body having diametrically opposed slots extending inwardly from one end thereof to provide a pair of opposing fingers, the ends of said iingers being rounded to define a flaring mouth opening into said opposed slots, and a rib formed on the inner wall of one 0f said lingers and centrally disposed within said body, the edge of said rib being disposed in spaced annular relation to the inner wall of the opposing finger to define therewith an inwardly converging hair engaging recess, said rib extending inwardly from the end of its supporting ringer and having a rounded end formed to define with the rounded end of the opposing finger a. flaring mouth opening into said hair engaging recess- ALLAN A.
