My invention relates to means for supporting orsuspending garments, and the same has for its object the provision of a hanger which is simple in construction, eiiicient in use, and inexpensive to manufacture.

Further, said invention has for its object the provision of a garment hanger which may be conveniently secured upon a door, wall or other suitable rigid support, and which may be readily adjusted to operative and inoperative position.

Further, said invention has for its object the provision of a garment hanger which, when adjusted to horizontal or garment supporting position, will maintain the vgarment in distended form in order to facilitate drying or airing thereof.

Further, said invention has for its object the provision of a garment hanger preferably formed of wire of appropriate gage, and which includes a support or bracket member, and a resilient loop-member which is pivotally secured to the support or bracket member, and capable of being readily adjusted to and from horizontal or garment-supporting position.

Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter.

To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends my invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination, connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.

In said drawings I D designates a supporting bar or bracket formed of heavygage wire and provided with oiTset ends II which are bent forwardly, outwardly, and inwardly to form inturned ends IIa, and disposed in a horizontal plane coinciding with that of the intermediate portion of said bar or bracket. The bar or bracket I D is provided inwardly of the ends II with flattened portions I2 having apertures to receive screws or fastening devices I3 for securing the bar to a suitable rigid support I4.

I5 denotes a substantially circular, resilient supporting loop, also formed of wire having overlapping end portions |52, I5b terminating in Z. rearwardly-extending end portions Ia, I6b provided with eyes Ila, IIb which embrace the offset portions II of the bar I0.

The rearwardly-extending end portions Ia, Ib are maintained normally spread apart and against the offset ends of the bar I I, vand rest upon the inturned ends Ilia, I6b by the tension of the resilient loop I5 when said loop is adjusted to horizontal or garment supporting position.

The loop I5 is provided with a series of garment attaching devices each of which comprises a member I8, having a ring or eyeA I9 at its upper end disposed upon the loop member I5', and a pointed end hook 20 at its lower free end to engage with the upper edge of the garment. The attaching devices are maintained in duly spaced relation upon the loop I5 by means of ears or small projections 2| struck up from the body of the loop at the sides of each ring or eye I9.

At Fig. 4 the attaching device comprises a pair of clamping jaws 25 held under tension by a spring 26, and provided with arms 21 each having an opening 28 in the end thereof to receive the ring 29 whereby the device may be secured to the loop I5, and serve to support or suspend the garment on said loop.

The operation of the hanger will be largely obvious from the foregoing specification. It need only to be noted that normally the loop I5 will be supported in Vertical position as indicated by broken lines at Fig. 3. When it is desired to support a garment, for example, a pair of trousers 24, it merely becomes necessary to grasp the sides of the loop I5 and draw the same apart slightly and at the same time raise the loop to horizontal position, as indicated `at Fig, 2. This will cause the ends Ia, I6b of the overlapping portions I5a, I5b to approach each other, as indicated at Fig. 2, and cause the same to be freed of the inner ends of the inturned ends II*3L of the bar I0, and permit the loop I5 to be raised to horizontal position. When the pull upon the opposite sides of the loop I5 is thereupon released the ends I6a, I 6b will resume their normal or distended positions and rest upon the inturned ends Il, of the bar IIJ, and thus support the loop in horizontal position. Hereupon the upper edge of the trousers is engaged with the pointed ends of the hooks 20, or between the jaws 25 of the clamping device, shown at Fig. 4, to support the garment in distended or open form to facilitate the drying and airing thereof.

Having thus described my said invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A garment hanger comprising a longitudinal member adapted for securement to a rigid support and having inturned ends, a frame member including a resilient loop having its ends eX- tending therefrom in spaced relation and pivotally engaging said longitudinal member and normally distended in engagement with said inturned ends for supporting said loop in horizontal position, said loop being actuatable to free the ends thereof from the inturned ends of said rst-named member to permit said loop to be adjusted to Vertical position, and garment sullporting means on said loop.

2. A garment hanger formed of wire comprising a longitudinal member adapted for securement to a rigid support and having inwardlyturned ends disposed forwardly of said longitudinal member, a resilient loop having its ends eX- tending therefrom in spaced relation and pivotal- 1y embracing said longitudinal member intermediate the inturned ends' thereof, said loop ends being normally distended into Vengagement with the ends of said longitudinal member and its ends supported by the inturned ends of said longitudinal member for supporting said loop in horizontal position, and said loop being yielding to free the ends thereof of their engagement with said inturned ends to permit of said loop being adjusted to vertical position when not in use, and attaching devices on said loop engageable with a garment to support the garment disposed upon said loop.

3. A garment hanger formed of wire comprising a longitudinal member adapted for securement to a rigid support and having aligned, inturned ends disposed forwardly of said longitudi- 4 nal member, a resilient loop having its ends arranged in overlapping relation and terminating in rearwardly extending spaced-apart portions having eyes pivotally embracing said longitudinal member, said loop ends beingheld normally distended into engagement with the ends of said longitudinal member and supported by said inturned ends for supporting said loop in horizon- R tal garment-supporting position, and said loop being actuatable to free the ends thereof of their engagement with said inturned ends to permit of said loop to be adjusted rto vertical position, and

attaching devices lengageable with a garment toy support the same in distended form upon said loop.

4. In a garment hanger, a member adapted for securement to a support and having inturned portions, a frame member including a resilient loop having its ends extending ytherefrom in spaced relation and normally distended Vin engagement with said inturned portions for supporting said loop in a horizontal position, said loop being actuatable to free the ends thereof from said inturned portions, to permit said loop Y to be adjusted to vertical position.

5. In a garment hanger, a member adapted for securement to a support, said member having inturned portions, a loop having end portions extending therefrom in spaced relation, said loop being normally disposed with its ends supported by the said inturned portions for supporting said loop in a horizontal position, and being actuatable to free the ends thereof of their engagement with said linturned portions, to permit of said loop being adjusted to vertical position.
