Description

Suspenders.
Patented April 12, I881.
ATTORNEY.
NJETERS, PHOTO-UTMDGRAPHER, WASHINGTON 01.0.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL M. ROMPLER, OF ERFURT, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,187, dated April 12, 1881.
Application filed January 6, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL Monrrz minimize, a resident of the city of Erfurt, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, haveinvented Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to improvements in the construction of suspenders and it consists in providing the back suspenderplate with an arc-shaped transverse guideslot, through which a continuous suspenderband is passed, thatextendsover the shoulders to the front buckles and straps, and is adjustable in the slot of the back plate.
I In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved suspenders, and Fig. 2 a detail view of the back plate.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
In the drawings,Arepresents the main band of my improved suspenders, which passes in one continuous piece from the front suspenden straps at one side over one shoulder, then through a slot of the back suspender-plate, B, and from the same over the opposite shoulder to the second front suspender-straps, as shown in Fig. 1. The back Suspender-plate, B, is provided with an arc-shaped transverse slot, 1), which is rounded off at the edges, to prevent injury to the suspender-band passing through the same. The back plate, B, is provided with a loop, d,below the slot 1), to which theleather or other straps at the back of the suspenders are applied to the main band A in any approved manner.
In using my improved suspenders the main band follows the motions of the body and ad justs itself in the arc-shaped slot of the back plate, so that it is not necessary to make the main band of elastic material. The main band can also be used on either side, as desired, it being only necessary to change the position of one of the front buckles and straps. The main band can be made of any suitable material and of any desired width, size, and color, it serving, in connection with the front and back plates and straps, to support the parts in an easy and reliable manner on the body. The suspenders are for this reason especially adapted for working-men, equestrians, and others,as they adapt themselves to the body in bending down, mounting or dismounting, &c., in a higher degree than the present suspenders, besides being considerably cheaper, as the use of elastic bands is done away with.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improvement in suspenders, the combination of a continuous main band, A, with a back plate, B, having a transverse slot, Z), substantially as described.
2. In suspenders, a back plate, B, having an arcshaped transverse slot, I), above the loop (I, to which the Suspender-straps are applied, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
