Description

(No Model.) G. R. HUNT.
Force Pump.
Patented April 12,1881.
Ill
l i i i g n I UNITED STATES PAT NT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. HUNT, OF KIRWIN, KANSAS.
FORCE-PUMP.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 239,957, dated April 12, 1881. I Application filed December 23, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORG R. HUNT, of Kirwin, in the county of Phillips and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Force-Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a view of the'valve or piston detached.
Oorrespondin g parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This'invention relates to double-actin g forcepumps; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed A represents the pump-cylinder, which is closed atits lower end, and provided at its upper end with a detachable but close-fitting cover, B. O is the water-pipe, which is arranged parallel to and connected by passages D D with the up per and lower ends of the cylinder. Near the upper end of the water-pipe is pivoted alever,.
E, carrying at one end a bail, F, by means of which the pump-piston is operated,
The piston or valve G consists of a rod or stem, H, carrying at each end a plunger, I. The plungers I are provided with openings J ground to form seats for the buttons K, one of which is formed or secured upon each end of the valve-stem. The plungers are provided with arms L, connected by cross-bars M, passing through and sliding in slots Nin the valvestem, to which the plungers are thus secured in such a manner that they may slide a short distance longitudinally in relation to the valvestem, The latter. is provided at its center with a transverse cross-bar, P, extending out through vertical slots or openings 0 in the sides of the cylinder, said slots 0 being of sufficient size to admit the water freely into the cylinder. The arms of the operating-bail are pivoted to the outer ends of the cross-bar P.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed,
the operation and advantages of myinvention will be readily understood.
On the downstroke of the piston the stem closes the opening J in the lower plunger, while the opening in the upper plunger is open for the admission of water into the upper part of the cylinder. On the upstroke the position of the stem is reversed, thus opening the orifice in the lower plunger for the admission of water into the bottom of the cylinder, while the water contained in the upper portion of e the same is forced through passage D into the and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States In a double-acting force-pump, the combination of the stem H, having end buttons, KK, and elongated slots N N near the ends thereof, and the plungers I I, provided with arms L L, connected together and to said stern by cross-bars M M, passing through said slots 1; N, whereby said plungers are adapted to move on said stems substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE E. HUNT.
Witnesses CLINT W. TRIERN, JOEL H. WHITE.
