3 Claims.
My invention relates to a terminal construc-. tion, and more particularly. to a terminal constructionadaptable for use with electrical devices such for example, as circuit interrupting devices and the like.
This application is a division of my application Serial No. 422,901, filed December 13, 1941, entitled Electric circuit interrupter and disconnecting device, and assigned tothe same assignee as the present invention.
It is an object of my invention to provide a new and improved terminal construction.
Further objects and advantages of my invention will become apparent as the following description proceeds and the features of novelty which characterize my invention will be pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed'to and forming a part of this specification.
For a better understanding of my invention, reference may he had to the accompanying drawing in' which Fig. 1 is. a side elevational view of the improved terminal construction of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing, the improved terminal construction of my invention is generally indicated at I l and it is illustrated as being mounted on a support or extension I which may form part of the terminal construction of a circuit interrupting device such as the fuse cutout disclosed and claimed in the parent copending application referred to above, of which this is a divisional application.
The terminal II, which is a stationary terminal, includes a body member l'i' formed of conducting material including a cylindrical lead-receiving portion or passageway 26. A long shoe 2! fit into the lead-receiving portion 26 and is adapted to be depressed into engagement with the lead, not shown, by means of a pair of screws 28 lead-receiving portion 26 diametrically opposite the opening 34 for pin 30.
In view of the, detailed description included above the operation of the improved terminal construction of my invention will be obvious and no further discussion thereof will be included herein.
While I have shown and, described what I at present consider the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from m invention and I, therefore, aim in the appended claims to cover all such changes and modifications as fall within the true spirit and scope of my invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A stationary terminal construction for an electrical device comprising a body member formed of conducting material and having a conductor-receiving passageway formed therein, an aperture in one wall of said conductor-receiving passageway, a clamping shoe located in said passageway, a guide pin carried by said shoe and extending throughsaid aperture for guiding said clamping shoe in its movement in said passagewa retracting means mounted exteriorly or said body member and associated with said guide pin threaded through the walls defining passageway 26 so as to clamp the lead between one wall of lead-receiving portion 26 and the shoe 21. Suitable means for preventing the screws 26 from being completely removed from the lead-receiving portion 26 may be provided. In order to hold the shoe 2! out of the way when putting alarge lead into terminal-receiving portion 26, I provide retracting means mounted exteriorly of the lead-receiving passageway 26, comprising spring 29 which is connected to the shoe 21 by means of a guide pin 30, the lower end of which is spun over as shown at 3| into a depression 32 in shoe 2''. A suitable washer 33 prevent the spring from dropping into the opening or apertending to bias said shoe against the wall 01' said passageway containing said aperture, and a screw threaded through the wall of said passageway having aid aperture and adapted to bear upon said shoeeiiectively to clamp an electrical conductor inserted in said passageway.
2. A terminal construction for an electrical device comprising a body member formed or conducting material and having a conductor receiving passageway formed therein, an aperture in one wall of said conductor receiving passageway, a clamping shoe located in said passageway, a guide pin carried by said shoe and extending through said aperture for guiding said clamping shoe in it movement in said passageway, spring means mounted exteriorly of said body and associated with said guide pin tending to bias said shoe against the wall of said passageway containing said aperture and out of its clamping position, and means threaded throughv the wall of said passageway having said aperture and adapted to bear upon said shoe effectively to clamp an electrical conductor inserted in said passageway.
3. A terminal construction for an electrical device comprising 'a bodyvmember formed of conducting material and having a conductor-receiving passageway formed therein, an aperture in one wall of said conductor receiving passageway,
